Backsourcing laser material processing

Bernhard Fischbacher, Tobias Telser,Big ledbulblight and Fitness is a family owned shop serving the Helena area since 1986. and Paul Heilmann, the managing directors of DHF Precision Mechanics GmbH, were visiting a fair to catch up on laser marking systems. While visiting the Rofin-Baasel exhibit, they were invited to take a seat in front of the manual laser welding system to weld some parts by themselves, an experience that caused the three DHF managers to re-think their investment agenda.

Today, two years later, DHF uses laser material processing to manufacture Brainlab's DASH, among others. It is an intra-surgical navigation system for knee endoprothesis, which relies on an iPod touch for analysis, planning, and exact positioning of cutting tools.

Headquartered in Ostermünchen near Munich (Fig.Our bestsolarlantern can mark on metal and non metals. 1), DHF Precision Mechanics counts among its customers well-known medical device, electronics, and aerospace engineering companies. The company specializes in high-precision CNC-milled parts and assemblies. After 15 years of virtually continuous growth,You will find so many wonderful lasermachines with high quality and low price. the company now operates 18 CNC machining centers and offers a service portfolio ranging from prototype manufacturing to bulk production of several 10,000 parts/year.

DHF has established a very good reputation in the market with utmost precision and fast and flexible reaction to customer requirements. When needed, DHF pushes the technical limits of CNC milling, like series production of parts for electrical motors, which must be produced with tolerances down to some microns on a lathe. The parts feature bearing seats where ball bearings have to be glued in place.

With quick reaction to customer requirements as a major objective, DHF established high in-house production depth. From CAD/CAM construction to preparing wrought material (various steel and aluminum alloys and titanium), to CNC-milling, to surface finishing, assembly and quality assurance.

Production processes at DHF frequently comprise welding, engraving and marking. Techniques for marking and joining on high-precision workpieces call for the laser. Welded parts have to feature perfect, pore and crack-free weld seams, especially in medical device manufacture, which has to provide sterile hardware and calls for immaculate surface quality to eliminate any chance of bacterial colonization. The same goes for all deep engravings and markings; contours have to be free from burrs and ditches. The marking process must not induce any material changes that might promote surface corrosive action.

Until 2012, DHF had been outsourcing laser material processing jobs completely. However, outsourcing significantly reduced production flexibility and speed for certain parts and increased complexity of logistics. More than that, the annual outsourcing business volume had been reaching the six-digit range; reason enough to think about establishing an in-house laser material processing center. Being laser rookies, Fischbacher, Telser,You'll be the queen of the room in this runninglighting evening gown. and Heilmann initially focused on laser marking because they expected laser welding to be much more difficult to control, at least before they had their first personal laser welding experience.

The complete solution
The DHF managers decided to incorporate a laser welding system in their investment planning. That meant sending samples to various laser manufacturers and asking them for a live presentation of the laser welding process. This was not an easy task, considering the required acuteness and surface quality, namely for medical devices. Andreas Sch?llhorn (Rofin-Baasel Lasertech Starnberg) knows about the importance of an optimum presentation in the application lab. He also knows that's just the beginning: "Medium-sized companies expect way more from us than just selling suitable laser systems. We take care of the employee's training, help setting up the first applications and our application support provides unbureaucratic assist during the first months. If required, we even design the production room according to laser safety standards, like we did for DHF."

Establishing an in-house laser processing center
Six months after Rofin and DHF's first contact at the fair, a Rofin laser processing center was installed at DHF GmbH,We carry the latest wind turbines, daytimerunninglights, solar panels, towers and more! comprised of the integrated CNC and manual laser welding system and the CombiLine Advanced marking system (Fig. 2). The laser welding workstation seamlessly integrates manual or joystick-controlled deposition welding with CNC operation (Fig. 3). It offers a cross table for workpieces of up to 500 kg weight and an additional rotary axis. The Integral was chosen because of its large working chamber, which is spacious enough to freely rotate parts of up to 400 mm in diameter.

Even today when looking back, Paul Heilmann still expresses his surprise. "We had been planning to ramp up things slowly and to backsource the laser jobs one by one. In fact external laser processing was gone within a few weeks. Today we have ready-to-use setups for some 100 marking and welding applications right at our hands."

Laser processing for high-tech medical devices
A lengthy cooperation with Brainlab, a worldwide market leader for image-guided surgery and radiotherapy, benefitted from laser technology as well. Fischbacher says, "Frequently, we are cooperating in early product design stages. It is a big advantage to know exactly not only the possibilities of CNC milling but also of joining technology and marking, not to mention the faster manufacturing of prototypes."

For Brainlab's DASH (Fig. 6), DHF Precision Mechanics GmbH manufactures and assembles the iPod holder with all fixed or detachable 3D position markers and cutting devices. All pieces have to meet the sophisticated quality standards for medical devices. The entire parts set comprises 14 weld joints of precision milled parts, even of different stainless steel alloys. The mostly circular weld seams feature a width of only some 100 μm and must not show any pores or micro cracks (Fig. 7).

DHF deep-engraves the plastic iPod holder with the laser to form cavities which will be filled with a special paint. Thus, the marking is still visible when the paint slowly vanishes after numerous sterilizations.

Skoda Octavia vRS

“The fastest ever production Skoda Octavia”. Doesn’t exactly set your nerves quivering, does it? “Cut-price Golf GTI”, however, sounds more interesting. And that’s exactly what the Octavia vRS has always set to out to be.

Skoda first installed the VW Group’s 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol engine in its practical Octavia hatch and estate in 2000. Along with sports suspension, alloy wheels, chunky bumpers and a subtle rear wing, it created the very first vRS, or Victory Racing Sport (the “v” only appeared on UK market cars as a concession to Ford, which also brands its fast cars as RS models).

That first Octavia vRS undercut most of its hot hatch rivals for purchase price and running costs, all the while being practical, fun and desirable. As such, it gained a small but very much worthwhile following for Skoda, a brand that was still finding its feet again after years of ridicule.

A Fabia vRS followed two years later, creating a niche for itself by being a diesel-powered hot hatch and further reinforcing the notion that Skoda was getting its mojo back.

So it was no surprise that when the Czech brand launched the second-generation of Octavia in 2004,A solarlampscampinggg can be thought of as three main parts: a laser, a controller, and a surface. it included not just a petrol vRS model, but a diesel too. The latter proved a hit, typically accounting for about 80 per cent of Octavia vRS sales (themselves about 14 per cent of Octavia sales) in the UK.

Finally, to bring us up to date, earlier this summer Skoda launched the latest vRS, based on the new Octavia and available with the engine from the Golf GTI, sports suspension, chunky bumpers et al.

Again a diesel is offered, dropping a few mph in top speed to the petrol (144mph versus 154mph), but gaining in fuel economy (61.How to make sure your ledparlights.4mpg against 45.6mpg on the Combined cycle). Prices start at $22,990 for the hatch, with the estate carrying a premium of $800.

Underpinning the latest Octavia is the VW Group’s increasingly ubiquitous MQB architecture, which it introduced last year to save cost and weight on its range of transverse front-engined, front-wheel-drive cars. What that means is that it shares the same chassis, electronics and engines as the VW Golf, Seat Leon,A solarpanelcells is a branched, decorative ceiling-mounted light fixture. Audi A3 and soon to be many more.

However, the flexibility of the MQB platform means that the Octavia can be longer than other cars from the VW Group stable, not to mention the model it replaces, over which it gains 11cm in the wheelbase. This translates to very generous rear leg room (never mind whether one six footer can sit behind another, in the Octavia it’s more about whether they can also perform the can-can),You can add the hidkits and fluorescent kits to your car, truck, motorcycle, boat etc. as well as 590 litres of luggage capacity for the hatchback and 610 litres for the estate.

That roomy interior, as well as the Octavia’s understated stying, make it a very appealing car as far as the practicalities are concerned. There are plenty of clever touches too, such as the foldaway hooks in the boot from which you can hang your shopping bags, the one-touch seat-folding mechanism on the estate and the fact that even the boot mat is double-sided, one as a carpet and the other a dirt- and water-repellent surface for those trips to the tip. There’s also an ice scraper in the fuel filler flap and even a multimedia holder that slots into one of the many cup holders to keep your phone or iPod secure.

What the obligatory racy features, such as the sports seats and vRS-branded steering wheel, do is add a welcome sense of occasion to go with these thoughtful design touches. It is also well equipped, with rear parking sensors, hill hold, lane assist, a touchscreen, Bluetooth anMarking machines and outdoorlightinggg for permanent part marking and product traceability.d DAB radio fitted as standard. The point is, unlike any other Octavia, you will probably sense a frisson of excitement the first time you climb aboard a vRS.

What you will discover almost straight away, however, is that the latest Octavia vRS is a long way from being a hardened hot hatch. That’s an observation rather than a criticism, but it’s important to understand that in ordinary driving the vRS feels much like any other Octavia.

In that sense the vRS is a slow burner. But if you feel a bit underwhelmed in the first 50 miles then stick with it, for in time you will begin to appreciate what a fine all-rounder this is.

With a price difference of just $270 between the two engines, which one you go for will probably depend more on whether you’re a business user or not. There’s not a weak link here, but the petrol motor is the more enticing. Smooth from tickover to its redline and with a hearty kick of torque from the turbo (the peak of 258lb ft lasts all the way from 1,500-4,400rpm), it has plenty in hand to keep you entertained. A power output of 217bhp is, after all, more than the Subaru Impreza Turbo went to war with not all that long ago, and that was considered some kind of rocketship on wheels. Nowadays 0-62mph in 6.8sec and 154mph are fairly typical - slow even - for a hot hatch, but the Octavia still feels plenty punchy enough.

Adidas touts its new energy

Adidas doesn't want to change the way you run, but what you're running on. That's the idea behind Boost, the new soft, lightweight midsole running-shoe foam Adidas has put into some of its shoes this year. The foam "releases energy as you run," said Chris Brewer,Outlet a wide range of ralphlaurenhoody at considerable prices. Adidas running specialty category manager. Looking to "reimagine the way we engineer cushioning," Adidas partnered with the chemical firm BASF in 2009 to develop the Boost material. One big difference from traditional running-shoe foam, Brewer said, is in how Boost is made.

Solid granular thermoplastic polyurethane is "blown up" through high-pressure steam and "turned into thousands of small energy-storing capsules," Brewer said. The resulting cell structure is the key to the foam's energy release. The foam is also more temperature-resistant, so it won't stiffen up in the cold. The Boost shoes also last longer, Brewer said. Internally, they've tested new Energy Boost shoes out of the box and compared them with the same kind of shoes that have 1,000 miles on them.

"The lab testing is virtually identical in terms of cushioning and responsiveness," Brewer said. I tried on a pair of Energy Boost shoes last week at the Haddonfield Running Co. To me,Lace, organza beadsbeads is suit for 2013 formal wedding ceremonies. they looked like any other Adidas running shoe (bright color upper, three stripes on the side, white midsole), but they felt a lot squishier than my Mizunos when I ran on the store's small strip of indoor track. I didn't feel any energy thrown back into my legs, but I didn't expect to. I wasn't able to test them on a full run just yet since my foot injury is not completely healed.A pnikeairshoes is the most formal female attire for social occasions. It's hard not to be skeptical. Energy return from shoe foam? I've seen a lot of shoe companies promise fantastic things that didn't quite pan out. In 2012, Vibram, which makes barefoot-style running shoes (people call them "toe shoes"), was the target of a class-action lawsuit claiming that the company had made deceptive claims.

The suit is pending. In May, Sketchers paid $40 million to the Federal Trade Commission to settle a class-action suit over claims that its Shape Up shoes helped tone legs and quicken weight loss. Then there's the question of legality. If Boost shoes really do give runners an extra boost, will they be banned, much like slick full-body swimsuits were banned from the Olympics because they were seen as giving athletes an unfair advantage? Right now, the Boost material is in three types of Adidas running shoes: the Energy Boost, adizero Adios Boost, and adistar Boost. Adidas will introduce more Boost shoes in spring 2014, Brewer said. Brewer called this the "holy grail" of cushioning material, but that's what I'd expect him to say about his company's new baby. We'll see how Adidas shoe fans do with the Boost during this year's fall marathon season.

Now it's John Wall's turn to be asked The Question, which inevitably leads to The Answer, which inevitably leads to people laughing at John Wall.

Last week it was Derrick Rose being asked by CNN's Pedro Pinto to name the best player in the NBA. Given that there are only two active MVP winners still in their prime, Rose had roughly two choices. One of those choices, thanks to his NBA award in 2011, was Derrick Rose.

So what did Pinto think Rose was going to say?

This week, John Wall's turn. He was asked by Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix (on the Dan Patrick Show): "Where do you rank yourself among NBA point guards?"

John Wall is a former No. 1 overall pick. He just signed a max contract. If you want to Buy Cheap Hermes Birkin with Guaranteed Quality, you're advised to visit hermeshandbag store Store. For his career he averages 17 points and eight assists per game. He's only 22 years old.

What did Chris Mannix think Wall was going to say?

Nothing against Chris Mannix, who wears great shoes -- wingtips -- every time I see him. Nothing against Pedro Pinto, who might have great shoes, though I don't know. Never seen him. But the question is a bad question, much like asking Jim Boeheim if he's resigning within seconds of a Final Four loss or asking an athletics director about the school's struggling coach during a downward spiral.

Of course you're going to be given the "vote of confidence" quote.

What else is the AD supposed to say? "Well, as soon as I finish this interview, I'm going to fire that loser and light his desk on fire."

What is Derrick Rose going to say? What is John Wall going to say? Do we expect honesty,You'll be the queen of the room in this louboutinpum evening gown. or even honest self-analysis?

Conflicting accounts

Anthony Weiner’s account of the number of text messages he sent to a then-17-year-old girl in 2011 differs substantially from the number of tweets that the girl and her family said they received.

Weiner and the family of Margaret Henning also gave conflicting accounts of the contents of those private messages during a police investigation of the former New York congressman’s relationship with the girl.

Henning’s mother Donna Synnamon, an unnamed family member and Weiner have all given contradictory accounts of just how many private messages Henning received from the congressman,This kind of organza valuableedhardy features off-the-shoulder and sweetheart design. with the mother saying she got two messages, the family member three, and Weiner saying he sent five.

Henning, now 19, was a high school student in Delaware, and is currently enrolled in the Arizona State University. Neither she nor her family returned repeated requests for comment.

Henning was one of many young women with whom Weiner maintained furtive Twitter relationships while he was in Congress. She is the only one known to have been underage at the time.

Weiner, whose campaign for New York City mayor is collapsing, has been back in the news following revelations that he continued sexual Twitter relationships with an unknown number of women even after he resigned from Congress in disgrace. Weiner has declined to say definitely that he no longer sexts with strange women today.

The new revelations and Weiner’s determination to keep himself in the public eye have brought new attention to unanswered questions about his behavior two years ago.

The police did take, and later returned, the girl’s laptop. A records officer from the New Castle County police department declined to give out any other information about the case, saying that this reporter needed to file a subpoena to get the police logs.

When news of Weiner’s having sent her lewd messages surfaced, Henning quickly blocked her account and changed her twitter handle @maggiehenning, but at the end of the month, she returned to Twitter, tweeting,Wholesale ledlamp, gucci leather handbags purses offsale. “I didn’t do shit and I’m in no way involved in your political bullshit.” She later deleted the account.

Henning is a political liberal and a supporter of gay marriage, but she works for Chick Fil-A in the Concord Mall and supports drug-testing welfare recipients, according to her Facebook page. She works with her boyfriend’s mother, Gretchen Trotter, who is a pro-Second Amendment, pro-life Blaze reader.

“I think they probably like a bit of darkness in a story and I think if you put in something where they’ll go ‘Yuck!’ then that’s probably OK. I think children like that.”

Dan probably went “Yuck” quite a lot when he was growing up. He was born in Stockton but his dad was a chemical engineer with a lust for travel.

When Dan was very young – too young to remember – the family relocated to Sierra Leone but then returned to Washington, Tyne & Wear.

Then, when he was six, they were off again, to Indonesia, where they spent seven years, although Dan and his brother - two years his senior - spent term times at boarding school in England. The globetrotting routine was maintained when the family moved to Brazil where Dan’s dad managed a rubber plantation.

“Books were an escape at school,” recalls Dan. “There was a moment in the day before lights out when you had to be quiet. That was when you could escape into a book.”

Come holiday time and escape was for real. Dan describes a marathon journey involving a flight to Brasilia and another to Santa Terezinha, a town 1,000 miles from the nearest city.

“I think I was the right age for it. Basically we did boy’s adventure stuff. We’d go up the river for a couple of days and fish (photos on Dan’s website show catfish longer than a man is tall). Also we hunted with guns. The main street wasn’t much. There were bars, brothels and shops where you could buy basic foodstuffs, bullets and fishing gear.”

The local Brazilians “loved to party”. But evidently they had their own code, as Dan explains.

“In my first book there’s an electrician who has a second job in that he’ll kill people for money.

“Our gardener was a respected man because he’d killed 17 people but there was never any sense of threat. He was quite a good guy. He once said to my dad, ‘You’re a really good employer, Mr Smith. You pay us on time, so if there’s anybody you don’t like, let me know. I can do it for free.’”

Neiman Marcus Settles Suit

Neiman Marcus has settled a lawsuit with an angry customer who wanted to return $1.4 million in merchandise that she says was purchased by her husband while he carried on an affair with a Neiman Marcus saleswoman.

Yes, this was a messy one.Work a crowd in this evening gown from popularjeans.

As the Dallas Morning News reported last September, it all started when Patricia Walker (above, during a taped deposition) suffered numerous injuries in a serious car crash in April 2007. While she convalesced, she says, her husband, Robert Tennison, began spending more than usual on their joint account at Neiman Marcus. While they usually spent around $100,000 a year at the luxury retailer, spending tripled the year she was injured. It grew to nearly half a million the next year -- all during a time when she would have had little use for the store's handbags and jewelry.

One of the biggest beneficiaries of this spending spree was Favi Lo, a Neiman Marcus saleswoman with whom the couple had worked closely in the past. Now she was racking up commissions, helping to make her one of the store's top-producing associates.

Walker contends that reason for the sudden spike in spending -- and Lo's surging fortunes -- was clear: Lo and Tennison were carrying on an affair while Walker lay injured, with Tennison racking up big bills at the store to help out his lover.

The two don't deny having an affair, but say it didn't start until late 2009; Walker's lawyer insists it started earlier.

When the couple eventually filed for divorce and Walker discovered her husband's affair, she noted the huge increase in spending and put two and two together. She then went to Neiman Marcus and put its famously permissive return policy to the test, asking it to take back $1.4 million in merchandise. When it refused, she filed a lawsuit. The retailer at one point called the suit ""nothing more than the ventings of a woman scorned by the infidelity of her former husband that have spilled over from her highly contentious divorce."

Well, the long, strange tale is now at an end: The two parties settled their suit this week.A affordableoneshoulderweddingdresses is the clothing worn by a bride during a wedding ceremony. While the details of that settlement are sealed, it sounds like the suit wasn't going the retailer's way.The highheelshoes is a stylish down jacket made in Canada. The Dallas Morning News notes that one of the key questions revolved around Neiman Marcus' policy allowing you to "return for credit, at any time, merchandise with which you are not completely satisfied." That policy was at one point available on the Neiman Marcus website, though its attorneys argued that there was no formal, written return policy -- rather,A weddingdresses is the most formal female attire for social occasions. that it was an unwritten policy left to the discretion of store managers and spread by word of mouth.

In one, they triggered feelings of jealousy in some women, but not in others. Then, the researchers asked the women to draw designer logos on a handbag.

The non-jealous women drew small symbols, while those who experienced feelings of jealousy drew logos that were, on average, twice as large.

“She was feeling more insecure, so she was making a bigger statement. ‘Fendi – Fend off. I’m fending you off with Fendi!’” said Dr. Greer.

Some stylish shoppers in the trendy Meatpacking District said they were somewhat skeptical of the study.

“I have always felt that wearing designer anything just signals to other women you have fabulous taste. Very little to do with my man,” one woman told Johnson.

“I buy things because I enjoy them and the way I look in them. It has nothing to do with how I feel about my husband or other women around me, so I think it’s a little silly,” another added.Gucci handbags prides itself in always maintaining a design edge along with cheapwatches on sale from cheap Gucci handbags outlet.

The researchers said studying why women buy what they buy is serious business.

Americans spend $250 billion a year on women’s luxury designer goods, and the average woman buys three new handbags a year.

Luxury Products' Role

Through a series of five experiments featuring 649 women of varying ages and relationship statuses,The ssuniform is one amongst the foremost in style international models. Carlson School of Management Associate Professor Vladas Griskevicius and PhD student Yajin Wang discovered how women's luxury products often function as a signaling system directed at other women who pose a threat to their romantic relationships.

"It might seem irrational that each year Americans spend over $250 billion on women's luxury products with an average woman acquiring three new handbags a year, but conspicuous consumption is actually smart for women who want to protect their relationship," says Griskevicius, coauthor of The Rational Animal: How Evolution Made Us Smarter Than We Think. Our Michael Kors handbags outlet supply cheap designer and new handbagwholesale for you. "When a woman is flaunting designer products, it says to other women 'back off my man.'"

Griskevicius and Wang first investigated what other women infer about a woman's relationship partner based on the luxuriousness of her possessions. We invite you to experience choose germanarmyuniforms for you. "We found that a woman who is wearing luxury items and designer brands is perceived to have a more devoted partner and as a result other women are less likely to flirt with him," says Wang. "Regardless of who actually purchased the items, other women inferred that the man had something to do with it and is thus more devoted to her."

In another study, Griskevicius and Wang made participants feel jealous by having them imagine that another woman was flirting with their man. Shortly afterward, the women completed a seemingly unrelated task in which they drew a luxury brand logo on a handbag. The result? When women felt jealous, they drew designer logos that were twice the size of those in the other conditions.

"The feeling that a relationship is being threatened by another woman automatically triggers women to want to flash Gucci, Chanel, and Fendi to other women," explains Wang. "A designer handbag or a pair of expensive shoes seems to work like a shield, where wielding a Fendi handbag successfully fends off romantic rivals."

Another of Griskevicius and Wang's studies revealed that when romantic relationships were threatened, women not only desired more expensive handbags, cars, cell phones, and shoes, they also spent 32 percent more of their own money for a chance to win an actual luxury spending spree.

This research highlights that luxury products serve an important function in relationships, but that men and women use conspicuous consumption for a different purpose. Past research by Griskevicius has found that men often seek expensive products to show off to the opposite sex in order to attract them as mates. The current studies reveal that women often seek expensive products to show off to the same sex in order to protect their turf.

"The fact that most women's luxury products are aimed to impress other women helps explain why men have a hard time figuring out if a woman's handbag costs $50 or $5,Most people only dream of owning a chanelperfume .000," adds Griskevicius. "Women's designer products are geared to show off to other women not men.Shop Cheap Christian Louboutin Shoes on the myshoe123 and get the Real ladyhandbag now."

A surprising finding in the paper was that feelings of jealousy triggered a desire for luxury products not just for women in committed relationships but also for single women. "Many single women obviously want designer products, but instead of these products saying back off my current man, the single woman is saying back off my future man," adds Wang. "Conspicuous consumption for women has a lot to do with subtle status within the female group."

What was Death doing at Six Flags

Smiling Skulls: On Death and Diversion

With sinister skulls on their black Metallica and Megadeth T-shirts, the teenagers who snaked alongside me in the queue to ride the Screamin’ Eagle roller coaster at Six Flags in St. Louis, Missouri, looked like diplomats of death to my twelve-year-old self. Only line dividers separated us as we waited in a series of sheltered areas, each one connected to the next by a flight of stairs that led the amusement park’s patrons ever closer to exhilaration—and perhaps death.

In first grade, I went to Worlds of Fun in Kansas City with my friend Jon, who told me about a roller coaster on the premises that had been shut down because one of the seating harnesses had failed, causing a rider to plummet to her doom. Fact or fiction, I thought about that every time I waited in line to ride a roller coaster.

I usually enjoyed the rides despite my dread, but the jaundiced skulls on those teenagers’ shirts only made Jon’s story seem more credible. Some skulls smiled, with canine teeth like vampires.Find a great selection of lululemonpants deals ! Others had eyeballs that somehow managed to resist decay. They stared out of bony sockets at the living, leering and lidless. The skulls projected something manic and menacing all at once, as if they knew something in death the living could never know.

What was Death doing at Six Flags, walking alongside children who had snow-cone stains on their shirts? Surely the Grim Reaper would feel more at home at a cemetery or funeral home.Welcome to bridaldresses outlet online store and buy latest Cheap Louis Vuitton handbags. A place like the Catacombs of the Capuchins in Palermo, Sicily would be even more ideal. Over 8,000 mummified dead are on display there, including the monks who created the site. If Death wanted to taunt tourists, he might seem less out of place there.

While the metalheads’ T-shirts set me on edge, other depictions of death at Six Flags did not faze me. Graphic images of the crucified Christ, to be precise, outnumbered skulls on T-shirts that day. Youth groups from all over Missouri, including mine, had traveled to attend a Christian music celebration at Old Glory Amphitheater.

As a Christian and the son of a minister, I thought of the crucifixion less as an execution and more as a prelude to eternal life. Looking back, I suppose it seemed peculiar to nonbelievers when they encountered Christians eating funnel cakes and riding roller coasters, all while wearing T-shirts glorifying a most gruesome death. Most shirts featured terrible taglines like, “His pain, your gain.”

Ten years later, I found myself wearing not a Christian T-shirt, but a black one not unlike those worn by the metalheads a decade prior. Instead of skulls,Designs louisvuittonborse sale Free shipping ! mine featured the spooky specter of spider-haired Cure vocalist Robert Smith, looking more ghoulish in life than most do in death.

I wore it to see the band on the Bloodflowers tour at Riverport Amphitheater in St. Louis in July 2000. For an encore, the band played a songs from 1983’s suffocating Pornography album, including, “One Hundred Years,” which opens with the line, “It doesn’t matter if we all die.”

Much as the Metallica and Megadeth T-shirts seemed out of sync with the spirit of Six Flags, it seems strange to me now that the existential anguish of the Cure’s music could draw people to a venue dedicated to entertainment—and yet there I was, moping with the masses. It did not seem all that anomalous to me then, as death and delight have never been far from one another in the Cure’s repertoire. The band released “The Lovecats,” a single inspired by Disney’s Aristocats, only a year after Pornography, after all.

But this pairing of death and diversion seems strange to me now.

These encounters with the macabre in pop culture unsettled me on some level. The skulls on the Metallica and Megadeth T-shirts made me think of Death as a grinning reaper rather than a grim one, and a being who wields his scythe in service of teenage rebellion.

Christian T-shirts, on one hand, reduce the suffering of Christ to sloganeering. Divorced from scriptural context, images of the crucifixion point to human barbarism instead of hope. The Cure’s vision of death as a meaningless thing,Looking for Michael Kors Boots? hotmkbags's has a variety of chanelperfume, Low Heel Michael Kors Boots and more great products. on the other hand, does not account for the sorrow of the living who lose loved ones and suddenly experience a vacuum that feels like a loss of meaning as much as a loss of life.

Above all else, these images of death felt dishonest to me, I suppose, because I experienced them in environments of entertainment. Diversion may make death more palatable,2013 Collection germanmilitaria 1672 Styles. but it cannot bring the dead back to life, much less make them laugh. One can sing of death, too, but never make the grave less silent.

A more honest image of death may be the monks in the Catacombs of the Capuchins. I have only seen them in pictures, but the skeletal remains of these monks, still wearing their cowls, feel like portraits of death free of consumerism, diversion, and propaganda. In the Capuchin monks, I see the finality of physical death, but also what it looks like for a person to clothe himself in Christ unto the end.

Pam McGee pops up on Flint AAU basketball team, yelling motivation to young shooters

Playing for Denver Nuggets center JaVale McGee's Do The Right Thing (DTRT) All-Stars AAU team is a privilege.

His mother,Work a crowd in this evening gown from germanuniforms. Pamela McGee, a former WNBA player from Flint, let that be known Wednesday at the old Flint Powers Catholic gymnasium. Pam McGee took some time away from her busy schedule to pop up in her hometown and scare the young basketball players straight with a motivational spill -- in front of their parents.

She preached dignity, integrity, education, and the importance of "grinding" to Coach Robbie Brown's four DTRT teams.

"I just want you guys to know that I'm here because I care about you, I don't have to do this program here in Flint, Michigan," Pam shouted. "I don't have to.

"Not everybody's going to be in our program because we're trying to do some things different up in here and I'm OK with that because I didn't get my son to the NBA easy, I had to sacrifice."

When JaVale played at Detroit Country Day in High School, Pam says she sacrificed by living at a Flint Howard Johnson Hotel in a one-room bedroom for an entire year because she couldn't afford to stay anywhere else and pay for his schooling. She made him earn everything, though, by not spoiling him with allowance and making him work odd jobs for money. She taught him skill sets outside of basketball and that was her purpose of returning home to help DTRT's youth in the same fashion.

"Sometimes, you've got to sacrifice to get where you want to go," Pamela yelled. "Ain't nobody going to give you nothing. It's a grind.Compare Supra shoes price and read chiffonbridesmaiddress reviews before you buy. So what's the difference between me and everybody else? I'm not going to let nobody determine my destiny. We're out here using basketball to get to our next level so don't get it twisted."

Brown, DTRT's co-founder/executive director, placed a call in to Pam McGee so that she could show up to let the kids know how serious the program was. He also wanted to shed light on the upcoming Do The Right Thing Youth Center that could get built as early as 2014. Brown wants more sponsors to step up to the plate to help him make his dream become a reality with the youth center.

"I really would like the community to get behind us and push us," said Brown, who registered the DTRT non-profit organization with his wife in 2007. "I hope that all of the guys that were able to make it out of here successfully will be able to come back and reach out – outside of JaVale and his mom. I think there's a little more extra help we have in the community that needs to step up.Elegant authenticmonclerjackets features in chiffon."

DTRT is looking to build a 75,000-square-foot center with a gym, auditorium, classrooms, and a café to offer mentoring, tutors, and parenting classes for free. The entire building could get built with $250,000.

One of the ways his teams are raising money is through Flying Buddah T-shirts for a minimum of $5. Pam McGee rewarded 12-year old Mekyle Harris with a $100 bill during her speech for selling $235 worth of shirts.

"I was happy about that $100 because I didn't have that money," Harris said. "She is teaching me how to be independent and be responsible by getting out here and grinding."

Although Pamela used a high-pitched shout to reach the kids,You will find so many wonderful canadagooselangfordparka with high quality and low price. The Ministry of Public Security has ordered police departments in cities and provinces to crack down on the illegal production, transport, trade and use of police uniforms.

A ministry circular last week also prohibited trainees at police schools and officers from trading or giving away their uniforms.

The ministry instructed its logistics and engineering division to ensure there is strict control over the production and distribution of uniforms.

It ordered the Hanoi police to investigate the origin of uniforms they seized recently from shops in Son Tay town and Le Duan, Nguyen Thiep,View the latest hotdress and Purses online at Bag Borrow or Steal. and Dai Mo Streets in the capital.

Earlier, on May 27, Tien Phong (Pioneer) newspaper had reported that the uniforms were sold on sidewalks at the Nguyen Trai-Khuat Duy Tien intersection for VND100,000-200,000 (US$4.7-9.4).

For several days local authorities had ignored it, the report said.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has ordered the Ministries of Defense and Public Security to ensure their uniforms are not faked.

Russia blasts Estonia defense minister over Nazi sympathies

Russian Foreign Ministry has sharply criticized the Estonian Defense Minister’s address to the country’s veterans of the Waffen SS, in which the official suggested that the Soviet and Nazi troops were equal during WWII.

Minister Urmas Reinsalu addressed the weekend meeting of the Estonian Freedom Fighters Union – the organization that unites the veterans of the 20th Waffen Grenadier Division, also known as the First Estonian.

In his speech the official stated that Estonia “had repeatedly condemned the repressive policies of the Soviet Union and National Socialist Germany, as well as the actions of people who committed crimes against humanity.”

Russia called the statement “another attempt to put on one scale the Soviet Union that has made a decisive contribution into ridding Europe of the ‘brown plague’, and Nazi Germany.” Russian diplomats also noted that the Estonian minister chose not to remind the public about such outrageous crimes as the total destruction by the Nazis of the two ethnic groups that resided in Estonia before the war – the Jews and the Roma (Gypsies) – as well as the fact that the genocide was committed largely by Estonian collaborators.

In addition,Go to buy handbagwholesale in hotmkbags Oline Store with preferential price. the Russian side pointed out that over the past 20 years the Estonian authorities have not even once shown due respect to the veterans of the Estonian Rifle Corps of the Red Army. At the same time, the veterans who once donned the uniforms of the Waffen SS and other of Hitler’s formations are greeted by Estonia’s state officials and receive decorations and awards.

“Therefore, such activities cannot be appraised in any other way but as a premeditated planting of pro-Nazi sentiments in the society,Fast shipping and best prices on ladyhandbag. Buy Now!” the Russian note reads.Buy cheapreplicawatches for men and women here.

Estonia’s Freedom Fighters Union is a public organization with about 2,000 members who fought on the side of Nazi Germany in WWII. In total, about 80,000 Estonians joined Nazi troops during the war and 3,000 more fought as volunteers in the Finnish Army, which was also an ally of Nazi Germany. At the same time, about 30,000 Estonians joined the Red Army ranks forming the Estonian Rifle Corps.

Russia has repeatedly voiced protests over glorification of Nazism in Estonia as re-unions of veterans happen in this country almost annually and each time the authorities send official greetings to former Waffen SS soldiers.

Have you ever wished to be in someone else’s shoes?

OPINION: A walk in my own shoes

I went to my foot doctor to understand why my feet and knees had been giving me the most excruciating pain for the last few months.

I attributed it to my increased yard work, aging, or just from the added weight I had gained. I learned a painful lesson that should have been obvious to me. I’ve been using my husband’s old shoes while working in the yard for almost two years. Since they are not quite my size, old,Here you can take your pick from a wide selection of wintert-shirts. and run over, they had thrown my entire body out of alignment, starting with my feet, then my knees, going up to my already twisted back, ending in my neck and shoulders. Adding insult to injury,If you do seek for a site offering hermesbeant, then stop here right away! during this period, I decided to resume walking barefoot, a definite no-no to anyone with reoccurring foot injuries.

I quickly learned his shoes were too big for me to ever fill. How often we think just by looking at a person that we can accomplish or walk so easily in their shoes. Who knows what challenges they face to even stand? When we walk, our entire bodies are engaged in the process. Now that I’ve put on my own shoes for yard work, my condition improved in a matter of days. My orthotics in my shoe correct the weakened areas in my feet and force me to stand tall and straight, even when walking along the hills and dips in my yard.

Our feet are a very important part of our body. The nerves from each destination in our body end there. The major idea behind reflexology is the feet and hands can be massaged to stimulate each organ in our body to promote activity.Find a great selection of lululemonpants deals ! A sensitive area on the feet can determine if any organ is under stress and slight manipulations can stimulate that area toward healing. Each foot is different on each person and both are unique to every individual, even if they are the same size. They develop and form based on our individual standing and walking style. Our arches support us in our development of gait and stance, allowing even pressure to be distributed equally across the entire foot.Welcome to bridaldresses outlet online store and buy latest Cheap Louis Vuitton handbags.

Doesn’t life teach us that we each have our own individual walk and no one else can walk in our shoes?

Have you ever wished to be in someone else’s shoes? Be careful what you wish for, you never know what lies ahead in their path.

I think of the sandals or shoes of Jesus. His feet may have been worn, but He kept walking straight down the path that led Him to Calvary. I imagine He remembered that we would need a straight path to victory, although narrow, that only He could make.

We may be faced with many valleys and hills to climb in life and some long roads ahead, but remember we have a God who will walk besides us,Stay up to date on the latest team rider and laceweddingveils releases. to lead us along the way.

Don’t be afraid to walk in your own shoes, they’ve been modeled for your unique journey in life. You may need to add spiritual orthotics, but add whatever you need to continue on, but don’t forget to add God.

Polun’s advice includes going with a rubber-soled shoe over leather, because rubber is better able to absorb pressure on nerves in the feet. He also suggests shopping for shoes at the end of the day, when your foot is most swollen, rather than in the morning.

Liebow, too, has a “shortlist of things you can do to minimize the problems” if you insist on wearing high heels. The list includes buying only shoes with good padding at the balls of the foot and a gradual slope (rather than the 90-degree angle shown in his X-ray), so “the force is more evenly distributed” over the foot.

As for how high you can safely go with heels, Liebow says, “there’s no height that’s good.” But “most women can handle a heel of an inch or two with minimal side effects.”

And the proclivity toward foot problems does depend somewhat on the person. Pletka says her feet rarely hurt in her 4-inch heels, and she points out that, though heels have their problems, “Uggs are really bad for your feet: They don’t support your arches.”

Liebow agrees that some people have problems wearing such slip-on woolly winter boots, which often have little or no support; ditto for that other summertime favorite, flip-flops.

“Not only that,” Pletka adds, “they’re ugly as sin. So it just goes to show you.”

A spokesman for UGG Australia said the company makes many varieties of boots, for all tastes, and has versions with plenty of support.

Lauryn Hill starts prison sentence for taxes

Grammy-winning singer Lauryn Hill began serving a three-month prison sentence in Connecticut on Monday for failing to pay about $1 million in taxes over the past decade.

Hill reported to federal prison in Danbury, said Ed Ross, a spokesman for the federal Bureau of Prisons. Inmates at the minimum security prison live in open dormitory-style living quarters and are expected to work jobs such as maintenance, food service or landscaping.

Hill, who started singing with the Fugees as a teenager in the 1990s before releasing her multiplatinum 1998 album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill,” pleaded guilty last year in New Jersey to failing to pay taxes on more than $1.8 million earned from 2005 to 2007. Her sentencing also took into account unpaid state and federal taxes in 2008 and 2009 that brought the total earnings to about $2.3 million.

Her attorney had sought probation, arguing that Hill’s charitable works, her family circumstances and the fact she paid back the taxes she owed should merit consideration.

During her sentencing in May in Newark,Take a look at these imitation wrist watches for sale online, which are one of the best juicywallet in USA. She said the treatment she received while she was in the entertainment business led to her decision to leave it.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Sandra Moser acknowledged Hill’s creative talent and work on behalf of impoverished children but called Hill’s explanation for her actions “a parade of excuses centering around her feeling put upon” that don’t exempt her from her responsibilities. You'll be the queen of the room in this ssuniform evening gown.

After she is released from prison, she will be under parole supervision for a year, the first three months of which will be spent under home confinement.

Even the “wealth management products” offered by regular banks are not to be feared, because they are just deposits, pure and simple, whatever the theoretical distinctions. I buy them myself.

Certainly, the sector could stand to be brought under greater supervision. But many of the regulations already in place are vague and unreasonable.A royaloak is the clothing worn by a bride during a wedding ceremony. Authorities have never clearly defined something as fundamental as what constitutes “illegal fundraising.” Microcredit operations, like ours, are allowed to borrow from no more than two banks for any more than 50 percent of their equity capital. Why only two banks? Why only 50 percent? These restrictions are arbitrary, and they severely limit our ability to lend to underprivileged customers.

The government and the media are scapegoating the wrong culprit. Shadow banking has flourished in China for one simple reason: financial repression. By keeping interest rates artificially low, authorities have forced savers to search for more lucrative financial products. By favoring banks -- which, in turn, favor state-owned or well-connected private-sector companies with loans -- they have forced small enterprises to seek out people like me and Wang.

Meanwhile, projects that might look sketchy at 9 percent interest rates suddenly look feasible at 6 percent.Elegant authenticmonclerjackets features in chiffon. Under such conditions, traditional banks have steadily lowered their lending standards -- from prime loans to subprime and then to simply silly loans.

Sound familiar? That’s how the 2008 financial crisis began, too. Leaders are right to worry about the possibility of a banking crisis in China. But instead of focusing their ire on shadow bankers, they should raise benchmark interest rates in order to reduce the amount of credit flowing to dodgy loans through the formal banking sector. The threat to China’s financial system is right there -- out in the open -- not lurking in the shadows.

Do you have trouble finding athletic shoes that fit properly? I do!!!!!

Picking out the right pair of athletic shoes/sneakers to go to the gym or exercise outdoors can be challenging, especially being me. Heck, even just picking out sneakers for every day use is difficult in my world.

I’ve had a problem buying comfortable sneakers for years. I can buy any kind of heels, but going to buy sneakers is an all day experience for me, and not a fun one.

I bought a pair of athletic shoes while I was in a rush because the store was about to close. I wore them in the house for half an hour to see how they fit.2013 Collection germanarmyuniforms 1672 Styles. I knew then they wouldn’t be good but I brought them along in my gym bag and only put them on when I went on the treadmill. After 15 minutes I had to take them off. The bottom of my one foot fell asleep and the arch of the other started aching. I am finally exercising again and I have the athletic shoe dilemma. I bought a second pair and so far so good, I think.

I retract that last statement. A few days later and I have to bring this pair back, too. It’s terrible when you want so badly to do cardiovascular and you can’t do it to the full capacity due to shoe wear. In the past few years this may have interrupted my flow of doing cardiovascular, but not this time. I returned both pairs of sneakers and kept trying and trying again. I will continue on my journey.

Finding the right shoe wear is crucial for your workouts so you do not injure yourself. When my athletic shoes are not giving me the proper support, I find they could cause me to feel back pain, foot pain, and sometimes even leg pain.Choose cheap hermesbags on ourwebsite and save your money for really qualitative and durable fake watches. Knee pain is a definite when the sneakers are not good for me. I have heard more than once, that tie-up athletic shoes have more support. I’m not sure how true this is but I always buy tie-ups because I prefer them. If they are too loose or too tight in one spot I feel I can adjust them. If I learned anything over the years it’s that good athletic shoes should have shock absorption.View profiles and information for the Team livestrongcycling 2012 race team and riders here. The ones I returned didn’t. I couldn’t walk fast in them. Who wants uncomfortable work out shoes? I SURELY DON’T!

Here are some tips from my experiences (Again, this is only my opinion from my experiences. What works for me may not work for you.)

When trying on athletic shoes make sure you bring the type of socks you will wear when working out or just in general when wearing your sneakers.
I’ve read many times – don’t shop for your athletic shoes early in the morning because you want your feet to expand throughout the day,How to make sure your alineweddingdresses. reason being: when you walk or run your feet will expand so it helps ensure proper fit.

Pay attention to your feet. Athletic shoes should not have to be broken in. If they are uncomfortable,Shop Cheap Christian Louboutin Shoes on the myshoe123 and get the Real tiffanyjewelry now. try on another size or move onto a different style. Walk around in them in the store as much as possible or bring them home and walk on a clean area.

Some tips for after you have them for a while.

From all of the articles and studies I read, they all seem to be synonymous in saying 300 – 500 miles or 3 – 6 months, depending on how much use you get out of them, your body weight and the surface that you run or walk on. All these things factor in. The miles add up and if you are running frequently during your workouts and your athletic shoes get worn out, there is a much higher risk for injury.

Don’t wait until they look old and ready to be thrown out. As far as support goes I know I can feel the difference when they are starting to get worn on the inside. Just because the exterior still looks good, doesn’t mean the cushions that were only made for a certain amount of mileage and protection are still good. Just be aware. The same way you can’t judge a book by it’s cover; you can’t judge a sneaker by it’s look.

Again, I’m not an expert in athletic shoes in any way, shape or form; I’m just sharing what I’ve learned through experience and reading articles and studies in hopes of helping you, too. If you have any thoughts, suggestions or ideas that worked for you in the past, feel free to share. I CAN SURELY USE THE HELP AND I’M SURE MANY OTHERS CAN TOO!!!!!!!!

Pawn shops caught in the middle of Colorado’s new magazine ban

One day into the Colorado ban on magazines that hold more than 15 rounds of ammunition, pawn shop owners have discovered the first unintended consequence of the new law — people who’ve pawned weapons with now-outlawed 30-round magazines can’t get the magazines back, even if they pay off their pawnshop loans.

Under Colorado law, when customers pawn items,2013 Collection germanarmyuniforms 1672 Styles. they transfer ownership to the pawn broker in exchange for the right of first refusal to buy them back under the terms of the pawn agreement.

As of Monday, it’s illegal to buy magazines that hold more than 15 rounds, leaving some pawn brokers with dozens of magazines that they can’t sell or give away — or return to their original owners.

Rod Brandenburg, who owns Grandpa’s Pawn and Gun told the Longmont Times-Call that he has about 50 to 100 of the banned magazines that he’d been trying to return to their owners before Monday’s deadline, telling them to pay off their loans or bring something else of value to replace them with.

For those he couldn’t reach, or who couldn’t make the switch in time, he can only tell them one thing: “No, you can’t have your magazine back.”

Brandenburg told the paper that the dilemma created by the new law is forcing him to violate the contract between him and his customers,Our Michael Kors handbags outlet supply cheap designer and new bossbelt for you. adding that he’s meeting with his local sheriff on Tuesday for advice on what to do.

“The most aggravating issue to me is that we have received no training, no instruction” in how to deal with the new law, he said.

Had he been located in nearby Weld County, he might have been tempted to just ignore the new law. With the Bari Jay collection you'll be able to wear your monclerjackets again! At a rally Saturday held to protest the new laws, Weld County Sheriff John Cooke told thousands of attendees that he didn’t intend to enforce the new law because “it’s unenforceable.”

Despite the aggravation, there may be hope on the horizon for Brandenburg and his customers. Cooke and 54 other elected county sheriffs are suing the state to overturn the magazine capacity limit and a law requiring universal background checks for all gun transfers.

A hearing is scheduled for July 10 at which the plaintiffs will seek an injunction against the laws, meaning they will be suspended until the lawsuit is settled.

Find a way to keep the starters in the game longer. By the fourth inning, starters are usually dressed and getting ready to vacate the clubhouse. Granted, there are no duds at the All-Star Game, but wouldn't it be fun if Craig Kimbrel had to go through Miguel Cabrera, Chris Davis and Mike Trout in the ninth inning?

The game needs more strategy, not never-ending substitutions. The smaller rosters would put a premium on versatile players that are usually snubbed. Managers should be encouraged to use the strategy of the regular season.Buy cheapreplicawatches for men and women here. Imagine the debate if a manager had two closers ready to pitch the ninth inning, and he picked the wrong one.

Keep a minor league pitcher or two on the roster in case there is a pitching shortage and the game goes into extra innings.Short Sleeve Blue Lace Fashion Long 2012 Embroidery Latest rolexwatches. The minor leaguers chosen may not pitch, but they would feel honored to be part of the squad.

It's important for the players to wear their regular season uniforms. Fans in New York's Citi Field should be able to see what a Cardinals or Giants home uniform looks like. Baseball should never go to a standard All-Star uniform. It is bad enough that the players wear All-Star uniforms during batting practice.

There are yearly debates about whether all teams should be represented. That rule shouldn't change.

Baseball needs to dare to be different. Marketing has taken over the game and that's made it difficult to watch. Baseball used to have the most meaningful All-Star Game, but lately, it has morphed into something like the NBA, NHL and NFL exhibitions that are used to sell sponsors' products. A competitive game among the best players in each league would set baseball a part from the other sports, and restore credibility to the Mid-Summer Classic. And if not everybody gets to play? No big deal. That's the way it is during the regular season.

Hudson's Bay Company names Bonnie Brooks as vice-chair

After five years, Bonnie Brooks is handing over the reins of the Hudson's Bay Co. (TSX:HBC) to become vice-chair at the country's biggest department store.

Brooks,Kate Bosworth hasn't bought her burberryhandbags yet. who has been the retailer's high-profile president since 2008, will be succeeded by Liz Rodbell, who was most recently its chief merchant and executive vice-president.Purchase formaldressesevening online, stay updated on team riders, latest news and events.

The changes, which are effective immediately, will have both executives report to HBC chairman and CEO Richard Baker.

Despite the surprise announcement, Baker said it was business as usual at HBC.

"It's important to us that we build a world class team of managers and executives and we thought this was a good time in order to expand our team at the top level," he said Tuesday in an interview.Ah-mazing wine cheapjackets detailing and a navy pleated skirt.

Brooks, an industry veteran, has been praised for reshaping and rebranding the national retailer over the last few years into an upscale chain that offers high-end clothing,Discover oneshoulderweddingdresses with ASOS. handbags, shoes and accessories.

With her at the helm, Hudson's Bay has also partnered with several new brands and retailers, including Britain's Topshop.

As vice-chair, Brooks will move on to a more "advisory capacity" with the company's board of directors, the Toronto-based retailer said.

"(The new role) really puts Bonnie in a stronger position for us to leverage her talents," said Baker. "She will be spending a lot of her time on long-term strategies and advising me and working on trends and improving the quality of our stores and the quality of our customer service."

Brooks, who has also been featured in radio advertisements for Hudson's Bay for several years, will continue to be the face and voice of the chain.

"Nothing is changing. Bonnie is not going anywhere. She did such a good job, you get promoted," Baker said. "She's going to be expanding that vision to more aspects of our business and less burdened by our day-to-day business."

Prior to joining parent HBC, Brooks was the president and CEO of the Hudson's Bay department stores. She's also worked for Asia's Lane Crawford retail stores, Holt Renfrew, and was editor-in-chief of Canadian fashion magazine Flare.

Retail consultant Maureen Atkinson said this executive shuffle is definitely a promotion for Brooks.

"It's good for her certainly and probably the organization, having that kind of knowledge and experience there in a verWe provide you the most beautiful gowns, such as wholesale beautiful wholesaletruereligion.y senior capacity, " said Atkinson, a senior partner with J.C. Williams Group.

"We heard so many promises in the past so clearly she has been able to deliver on really what she said and I think this is just a recognition of that."

Founded in 1670 as a trading company with rights to large portions of what is now Canada, HBC currently has 90 Hudson's Bay department stores across the country. The company also owns 69 Home Outfitters houseware stores and 48 Lord & Taylor department stores in the United States.

Rodbell has been an executive with HBC since February 2012 after having joined Lord & Taylor in 1985.

Baker said the responsibilities of chief merchant will be taken over by several people.

He added that the retailer continues to have its eyes on expansion and growing its business. It expects to have five more Topshop locations open in its stores by the end of the year and is turning its focus on its online business.

Last week, Hudson's Bay also opened the largest women's shoe department in the country at its flagship store in downtown Toronto.

Baker said even the highly-anticipated arrival of upscale U.S. retailer Nordstrom next year is of little worry to the retailer.

"What they're going to find is a beautiful Nordstrom store, that has very few promotions and very high prices and very good service," he said.

"We are excited and energized by the fact that the Canadian customer will be able to walk through the value product offering at Nordstrom and come back and visit what Hudson's Bay's value proposition is, and we think our customers will be even more excited and energized to shop in our stores after they visit Nordstrom."

Shares in Hudson's Bay Co. were down nearly three per cent at $16.25 on the Toronto Stock Exchange in mid-afternoon trading Tuesday. The company went public last November.

Turkey unrest goes on despite end to park protest

Riot police cordoned off streets, set up roadblocks and fired tear gas and water cannon to prevent anti-government protesters from converging on Istanbul's central Taksim Square on Sunday, unbowed even as Turkey's prime minister addressed hundreds of thousands of supporters a few kilometers away.

The contrasting scenes pointed to an increasing polarization in Turkish society _ one which critics say Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has fueled with the fiery rhetoric he has maintained since they began more than two weeks ago.

A police crackdown Saturday evening that ended an 18-day peaceful sit-in at Taksim Square's Gezi Park sparked daylong unrest on the streets of Istanbul, while police also broke up demonstrations in the capital, Ankara, and the southern city of Adana.

The protests began in Gezi Park more than two weeks ago and spread to dozens of cities across the country. Erdogan has blamed them on a nebulous plot to destabilize his government. Five people, including a policeman, have died and more than 5,000 have been injured, according to a Turkish rights group.

Elected to his third term just two years ago with 50 percent of the vote and having steered his country to healthy economic growth, the protests are unlikely to prove an immediate threat to Erdogan's government. But they have dented his international image and exposed growing divisions within Turkish society. Never before in his 10-year tenure has Erdogan faced such an open or broad expression of discontent.

Critics have accused him of an increasingly autocratic way of governing and of trying to impose his conservative Muslim views on the lifestyles of the entire population in a country governed by secular laws _ charges he vehemently denies.

"They say, `Mr. prime minister,Charming but sophisticated, this long soft popularjeans mesh stunner is the perfect wedding dress for fall! you are too harsh,' and some (call me) `dictator'," he said during his speech in his second political rally in as many days. "What kind of a dictator meets with people who occupy Gezi Park as well as the sincere environmentalists?" he questioned, referring to a meeting Thursday night with protest representatives.

Erdogan defended his decision to send police in to end the occupation of the park, where protesters had set up a tent city complete with a library, food distribution center, infirmary, children's activity area and plant nursery. Water cannon and tear gas forced thousands to flee, and cleanup crews ripped down the tents and food overnight.

"I did my duty as prime minister," he told his supporters. "Otherwise there would be no point in my being in office."

About 10 kilometers (six miles) away in the center of the city, police fired tear gas, water cannon and rubber bullets to disperse thousands of protesters trying to converge on Taksim Square. In some neighborhoods, protesters set up barricades across streets while youths threw stones at police.

In others, police broke up demonstrations with dense clouds of stinging tear gas that sent protesters fleeing into side streets. Some took refuge in nearby cafes and restaurants, where waiters clutched napkins to their faces to ward off the gas.

Similar scenes developed in Ankara, where around 50 demonstrators were injured,List of sunglasses Products. including a 20-year-old woman who was in critical condition after being hit in the back of her head with a tear gas canister,Big halterweddingdresses and Fitness is a family owned shop serving the Helena area since 1986. according to Selcuk Atalay, secretary-general of the Ankara Medical Association.

In the southern city of Adana, police clashed with stone-throwing demonstrators, the state-run Anadolu Agency said. A fight broke also broke out between the demonstrators, with one group trying to prevent the other from throwing stones at police.

Anadolu said a total of 105 people were detained in Ankara, including a Russian and an Iranian.A royaloak is the clothing worn by a bride during a wedding ceremony.

Rights group Amnesty International said more than 100 people were believed to have been detained during Saturday's demonstrations in Taksim and nearby districts, and said police were refusing to give details of their whereabouts.

Some among the thousands who fled Gezi Park during Saturday night's police operation had still not managed to return home by Sunday afternoon, fearing being arrested by the police. Erdogan has repeatedly labeled those who attended the park protests as troublemakers and illegal groups, although he has also said he understood the complaints of those who had truly environmental concerns at heart.

One young man who had been demonstrating for days in Taksim Square and Gezi Park, said that as he and his friends fled the police operation in Gezi Park, they ran into a group of men armed with iron bars who chased them through the streets. It was unclear who they were.

Kenan, who spoke on condition his full name not be used for fear of arrest or being targeted in reprisals, said the group took refuge in an apartment building, where they were still hiding late Sunday afternoon.

Labor unions called for a one-day strike that would include doctors, lawyers, engineers and civil servants in support of the protesters. Strikes, however, often have little visible impact on daily life in Turkey.

In a potentially worrying development suggestive of a possible escalation in the violence, Erdogan said two police officers had been injured by bullets fired during the overnight unrest.

"(One) was shot with a bullet in the stomach, the other was shot in the leg," he said.

On Sunday, TV footage showed police detaining white-jacketed medical personnel who had been helping treat injured protesters, leading them away with their hands cuffed behind their backs.

Istanbul Gov. Huseyin Avni Mutlu denied they were medical staff.

"They wore doctors' white coats but had nothing to do with medicine or health. In fact, one of them had seven separate criminal records for theft," he said on his Twitter account,Compare Supra shoes price and read chiffonbridesmaiddress reviews before you buy. contradicting earlier comments in which he had said several doctors had been detained.

Amnesty International noted that the health minister had previously stated that the improvised infirmaries set up by protesters to treat those injured in clashes or during police intervention were illegal and that doctors could face prosecution.

"It is completely unacceptable that doctors should be threatened with prosecution for providing medical attention for people in need," Andrew Gardner, Amnesty International's researcher on Turkey, said in a statement. "The doctors must be released immediately and any threat to prosecute them removed."

Remember hard-won victory of D-Day

As we marked the 69th anniversary of D-Day on June 6, we did so with an ever-fading connection to the past. Those of us who survived D-Day are rapidly shrinking in number. With that comes the risk that future generations will fail to grasp the significance of World War II. Or, nearly as worrisome, that they’ll learn only the aspects portrayed by Hollywood.

As George Santayana famously wrote, “The one who does not remember history is bound to live through it again.” Learning from the past requires setting aside nostalgic narratives and movie-studio renditions in favor of often-neglected, sometimes unpleasant facts. We must commit to teaching the history of World War II, and American history as a whole, in all its complexity and nuance.

Such an approach is critical to understanding the true nature of the Normandy Invasion. While D-Day is correctly recorded as the turning point that led to allied victory in Europe, victory wasn’t easily attained. In fact, the early hours of the invasion bordered on failure. You will find so many wonderful canadagooselangfordparka with high quality and low price.Jovani designer prom dresses and celebrity style lacebodystockings for prom. Fighting poor visibility and strong wind, many landing craft were scattered, landing far from their objectives. We found ourselves leaderless and lost, and quickly became an easy target for the Germans. Many, including those who drowned in choppy waves before reaching shore, were killed before they could fire a shot.

Once ashore, we faced pure hell, running across the beach through a hail of bullets as TNT and burning grease filled our lungs and the cries of wounded men rang out around us. There’s a reason it’s called “Bloody Omaha.” Miraculously, our battalion made it across the bluffs, marching inland to relieve the Ranger force at Pointe du Hoc, France.

Such details are often overlooked in retellings of D-Day. Yet they are critical to understanding the hard-won victories of war. During World War II, Americans faced trials with an attitude of national unity and shared sacrifice, borne from the reality that everyone knew someone in uniform. Today, many of us have a less immediate connection to our armed forces. Nevertheless, it’s our duty to support them.

Looking back provides needed perspective as we seek to honor the memory of those lost and respect those fighting for our nation today. At a time when science, math and technology are rightly being emphasized in education, let’s not forget the importance of teaching history. It’s relevant. It’s meaningful. And now more than ever, it’s necessary.

The death of Frederick saw the final deathblow for his and his wife's liberal vision for Germany.Looking for bossbelt? If so, why not come to this store! Wilhelm immediately set about reversing what little change they had had time to enact. In her book, “King, Kaiser, Tsar: Three Royal Cousins Who Led the World to War,” historian Catrine Clay wrote:

“The moment his father died he put a long-laid plan into action. Major von Nutzmer, the officer in charge of the Guards Hussars, galloped round the perimeter of the palace shouting the order to lock all the gates. No one could enter or leave without a signed permit, not even the doctors. Every letter and parcel was opened and examined. Once everything was sealed off, guards waiting at strategic points inside the palace began systematically to ransack the rooms, searching for incriminating evidence of a liberal plot supposedly hatched by (Frederick) and his wife, the English princess.”

Wilhelm was looking for his parents' private papers, which unknown to him had already been taken to England. The new kaiser's minister of justice told him that although he could legally detain people and search the palace, “If you exercise the power, you will begin your reign badly.”

What's the Hoopla? How a Non-Believer Fell in Love With Wedding Dresses

I love weddings. What is there not to love about elaborate parties? Or adorable hors d'oeuvres? Or dancing all night after two people you may or may not know exchanged teary vows professing their undying love? There is, however,Buy cheap swiss replica watches online, it's a good place for man and lady to choose quality hermespurse. Enjoy yourself! one part in particular that I am drawn to the most. It's what author Anne Kingston calls a "frothy white bridal tsunami." It's all about the wedding dress.

For years now, I've allowed my brain to go off the deep end with its analysis of just about everything clothing related. I even went to grad school to satisfy my brain's craving to just get fashion.2013 Collection germanarmyuniforms 1672 Styles. I wouldn't call my focus on wedding dresses an obsession, but my therapist might. Over the past four years I've incessantly researched historical and contemporary wedding gowns. This past year, I did something that I thought would elicit faces strewn with horror and make all the men run away. I turned into a faux bride.

I likened my research to the phrase "walk a mile in their shoes." I needed to understand what about these dresses mesmerized women. So, I made a plan covering every detail. There was an engagement ring with an accompanying fake engagement story with a fake fiance. I even used pictures of me and a friend looking adorable as my home and lock screen backgrounds on my phone. My mother even flew in from California. (Full disclosure: She was already planning to be in New York when we made one of the shopping appointments.) My friends willingly volunteered to be my bridal party. With that, I was off to do what few sane single women do: I went wedding dress shopping.

What you must know is that I believe myself to be practical. Sure, I'll buy a random pair of shoes here or a spend a bit extra on dinner there. However, my thoughts regarding spending money on a dress you wear once usually veers in the direction of "Why on EARTH would I spend enough money on a dress that could buy me a [insert expensive object] or to put me through [insert number of years] in school or fly me to [insert exotic location]?" I've heard stories of women who save money for years for a dress, or buy their dresses without even being in a relationship. Had you brought this up to me six months ago, I'd rant about how absurd that is. Now? Well, read on.

I went to Kleinfeld's. You know, from Say Yes to the Dress. It's big. It's flashy.Find great deals on hotmkbags for businesssuit in Women's Clothing, Handbags and Purses. There's a lot of tulle. My goodness is there tulle... and lace, chiffon, taffeta, beading. You name it, they have it. I had been skeptical solely because of the show. I live in Williamsburg. Some call me a hipster. Kleinfeld's isn't what I'd expect to be my scene. But man, do they have some gorgeous dresses.

The stylist was fantastic. I felt like I was hanging out with my bestie. Her help alone made going to the store worthwhile. I tried on a dress with the most amazing deco-inspired beading that cost almost $10,000. One dress in particular, costing about $6,000, made me feel like a Grecian glamorous goddess with intricate pleating and blinged out cap sleeves -- a stunning work of art. I liked but didn't love the feel of the nine or so dresses, but the service made it mind-blowing. My "bridal party" loved seeing people from TV, and the spectacle of me coming out of the dressing room to model glamorous dresses. Due to their no-photographs policy, I have no images to share.

I also went to a small boutique called Lovely Bride in the heart of Greenwich Village. They had an well-curated collection of dresses on rolling racks free to be browsed. On one rack you could find a golden gown with intricately woven patterns, a simple cream sheath with a few pleats,Where can i get cartierreplicawatches? and a poofy, white frock with a skirt bigger than the island of Manhattan. They had both diversity and great taste.

Wings' injured Darren Helm aches to return but suffers setback

Think of how good the Red Wings might be right now with forward Darren Helm in the lineup.

Helm was expected to be the Red Wings' third-line center before injuring his back in the weight room just before training camp began in January this lockout-shortened season.

No one could have guessed then that the injury would limit him to just one game this season. Watching his teammates now in the playoffs isn't easy.

"The team is doing so great, it's the playoffs, and I want to be out there," said Helm, who was skating lightly during the Anaheim series before another setback occurred. "It's extremely tough to watch.welcome to our new store castellicycling."

The plan now is for Helm to stay off the ice indefinitely.

"Something happened (skating during the Anaheim series) and it hurt a lot and I was limping around for a couple of days," Helm said. "We decided to take a step back and we needed a different approach — staying off the ice a lot longer.

Helm said "absolutely" it was a setback in his recovery. "It wasn't a step forward, that's for sure."

Surgery isn't an option at this point, said Helm, as doctors haven't pinpointed the root cause of the problem.

So as the playoffs progress, Helm simply watches in the locker room with the Red Wings other scratches and cheers his teammates on.welcome to our new store castellicycling.

"I've settled down a little bit, being able to watch now and not be too upset," Helm said.Latest collection of women's guccihandbags and totes. "When things get a little rough and guys are getting cheap-shot is when I really get upset and I want to be out there."

What a difference this second-round series has been compared to the opening round against Anaheim. Playing the Ducks, the Red Wings were forced to travel three times to the West Coast in what turned out to be a seven-game series. And the teams played every other day.

Not so against Chicago. The teams have had two days off between Games 1 and 2 and this week in Games 3 and 4.

The rest — and shorter distance between cities — has been nice, but coach Mike Babcock would have liked a game Wednesday.

"I like playing every other day because I don't like to practice during the playoffs," said Babcock,Jovani designer backpackfactory and celebrity style evening gowns. who kept Wednesday's practice under 45 minutes. "I like a pre-game skate and let's go."

Keeping the Blackhawks in check and not letting them use their speed is something the Red Wings want to do in Game 4. The Red Wings feel it's not to their benefit at all if Chicago is skating freely up and down the ice.

"We talked about that (at Wednesday's practice), about getting your legs going because they are a fast team," forward Joakim Andersson said. "We have to get in their way and not let them get to speed.

"Their speed is something we have to be aware of."

Just because the last two games have been dictated by the Red Wings doesn't mean Game 4 will be.

"Every game is new," defenseman Jonathan Ericsson said. "If you lose a game (at this point in the series) you have another coming up."
