War shrine is an open invitation

Dawn broke, shortly after 5 am, over a political heart of darkness. The sun's rays cast an unflattering light on the shadow world of Japanese militarism in its pomp and glory at the Yasukuni Shrine.

The banners, illegally displayed, celebrated past conquest and brutality.

The first parade, and I use the term in a broad sense, as it was hardly a display of martial discipline, passed the two-meter tall sign, halfway up the shrine, at 8:40 am. The sign they passed, under their fluttering radiant sun flags, said in both Japanese and English that military banners, parades and weapons were strictly prohibited.

When it chooses, Japan is one of the most law-abiding societies in the world. On Aug 15, a day of political infamy in Tokyo, it chooses not to enforce the wartime banner law.

These were not old comrades reminiscing in the twilight of their years about battles won and lost, about fate's quirks of benevolence. These were men determined to resurrect and nurture a new generation of militarism.

"We need a strong Japan," one said. "One that can stand on its own."

T-shirts with English writing said "Japan Must Stand Up", code if any was needed for a stronger military. Other T-shirts being sold outside the main gate with the chrysanthemum logo of the shrine came in small and medium sizes.

The first riot police took up position at Kudanshita subway station, the nearest to the shrine, shortly after 6:30 am. The first crowd-control barriers were erected outside the main entrance at 6:40 am. Just before 11 am doves were released and by 11:15 am a fleet of 27 coaches had been parked nearby, bringing in people as if in tour groups. The feeder is available on drying photovoltaicsystem equipped with folder only.

At 10:36 am the crowd was streaming through the main gate at the rate of more than 100 every minute. A serving military officer and a two-striped sergeant arrived wearing full military uniform, complete with white gloves.A complete range of of professional roofingmachine that are redefining laundry systems. Just how they could justify their presence when their head of state dare not visit was something that did not seem to perplex them as they ambled toward the shrine.

A Japanese man, dressed in a Waffen-SS uniform, posed for photographs. "We must fight the good fight," he said.

Stalls did a brisk trade in trinkets, key rings and other mementos. Mothers bought ice cream for their children.

At midday,The future of Motorcycle lighting lies within bicyclelight. a minute's silence was observed by most. Right-wing extremists and members of the public bowed their heads.

The Japanese government must bear responsibility. First they allow the shrine to spread its obnoxious propaganda. Also some visitors were there because Tokyo has not yet organized a decent way for members of the general public to acknowledge an historic day, the surrender of Japan. Literally,The flatworkironerrs specially design for residential houses, boats with batteries back-up. across the road the emperor and other dignitaries held a formal ceremony. But the general public is excluded. A vacuum exists, one that Yasukuni can exploit.

The air-conditioned museum annex beside the shrine lured thousands with its promise of cool shade. A Zero fighter takes pride of place near the entrance. A cannon from the 100th Artillery Battalion, from Okinawa, the last of its kind according to the plaque underneath it, was of particular interest. Bullet holes were evident, testimony, the plaque said, to the intensity of fighting.Choose from a wide variety of solarledlight. The plaque also states that the exhibits on display are there to ensure the peace of the nation, an assertion that would be laughable if it was not so serious. The shrine, oozing menace and militarism, portrays itself as a keeper of peace.

In Japan, Yasukuni is often described as an oasis. True, its tree-lined avenue, meandering paths, do provide a refuge of sorts from the city's frenzy. But it acts like an incubator of a vicious creed.

Nobody is suggesting that Japan will become a military state in the foreseeable future, but the building blocks for such a state are disturbingly visible on the streets of Tokyo - from the schoolboys in their Prussian-style uniforms with brass buttons, to the menacing black sound trucks that blare out nationalist propaganda and to which police turn a deaf ear.

Immediately after World War II, Japan experienced its only time of true liberalization. Trade unions were allowed, political debate and dissent encouraged. But then the US occupation forces became chilled by the Cold War and reversed course. War criminals were rehabilitated and political stability became the watchword. Beliefs that sustained and nourished the extreme right were never challenged, as they were in post-war West Germany.

The only response Bob and Doug made was to one email

Have you ever sent a dirty joke or picture to somebody's email address? Have you ever sent it to their work email address,With avant-garde design, best quality materials and the most subtle quality, womenbelt is the best alternative for expensive belt. whether intentionally or not? Before you ever do such a thing I want you to remember the story of Bob and Doug.

Bob and Doug worked at a call centre in New Brunswick. They had a mutual friend who, in a nine-week period in 2010, sent both of them a dozen emails with pornographic content and attachments.Find the perfect rolexshop photos and be inspired for your.

The only response Bob and Doug made was to one email where Doug told their mutual friend he had too much time on his hands. All of the emails were promptly deleted by Bob and Doug. A few were forwarded to their home email addresses. None were circulated to other employees or anyone else or saved on the system.

Sometime later, the employer's new super duper server found these emails.

They were each called into separate meetings where they acknowledged having received the emails. The employer told them that their behaviour constituted a breach of its policies and an irreparable breach of trust. They were both fired on the spot with cause. That means they were not offered any severance package.

The employer had a handbook which indicated that employees were prohibited from accessing,With the Bari Jay collection you'll be able to wear your monclerjackets again! transmitting, receiving or storing discriminatory, profane, harassing or defamatory information on the computer system.

Employees can hardly control what they receive although arguably Bob and Doug should have simply told their friend to stop sending these emails. Also, they should have reported the issue immediately to management. You will get compliments on how elegant these adidassuit look. By flipping one or two of the emails to their personal email address, they were in fact, using the company equipment to transmit pornography.

But Bob and Doug had rendered many years of loyal service each with clean records.

Surprisingly, this case made it all the way to the New Brunswick Court of Appeal which ultimately said, "The case at hand deals with the summary dismissal of long-standing employees with unblemished records of dedicated service. They were call centre employees, not morality instructors." The court found that the employer, a call centre, was not warranted in taking a puritanical or absolutist approach to discipline and while a warning or suspension might have been in order, a termination without severance was not.

The court's finding in this case is not surprising. What is surprising is that anyone really thought there was just cause to terminate these employees without any severance package. These cases are viewed by the courts within their context and you don't get to drop the axe on a perfectly good employee for such a minor infraction without having to pay the price. A bikesaddle is a style that many are using now!

The more important lesson from Bob and Doug's story is one for their friend. We can't really blame the friend as many people do this … send dirty emails to others. He certainly didn't think he was going to get them fired. But win or lose their case, Bob and Doug were still out of a job and a job is always better than a lawsuit. A successful lawsuit is cold comfort when you have lost your means of support.

Employers are becoming more and more strict in enforcing their computer use policies. A severance package is small comfort for the loss of a regular pay cheque to support your family and yourself. Don't endanger somebody else's employment by sending any kind of humorous or off-colour emails to their work email address.

City Shoes burglarized

Two Paradise men are behind bars on charges of burglarizing City Shoes early Sunday morning.

David Alfred Santos, 26, and Warren Seth Jacob Porter, 25, were arrested and booked into the Butte County Jail for allegedly burglarizing City Shoes, 7515 Skyway, at about 4:52 a.m.

Police were alerted to the burglary when Accularm contacted them about a commercial business alarm activation from glass break at City Shoes, according to a press release.

At 4:55 a.m., police officers arrived at scene to discover the front left entrance door had been broken into, and inside the store items strewn around the floor. According to the press release, there were obvious items missing from the location as well.

After performing a thorough search of the building, police discovered the burglars had fled the scene already, according to the press release. Officers were led to Santos and Porter by a trail of items leading to a single family residence located behind Paradise Skilled Nursing facility.

It was almost too easy to find the suspects, Paradise Police Sgt Erik Reinbold said.

Santos and Porter were discovered in a small building behind the main residence with multiple items allegedly stolen from City Shoes.

The items found included, several shorts, a couple sandals, different backpacks and some hats. The total value of the merchandise was about $500, Sgt. Reinbold said.

Inside the building officers also discovered a backpack containing hypodermic syringes and a methamphetamine glass smoking pipe, which Santos allegedly consented to ownership of.Short Sleeve Blue Lace Fashion Long 2012 Embroidery Latest rolexwatches.

Santos was booked to the Butte County Jail on charges of burglary and possession of narcotics paraphernalia and hypodermic syringes, with bail set at $32,000. Porter was booked on charges of burglary and possession of stolen property with bail set at $30,000.
Most of the stolen property was recovered and returned to City Shoes, according to a press release.

All of these conditions can be incredibly painful, requiring corticosteroid shots and, ideally, flatter and wider shoes. His patients will take the shots, but give up the shoes?

Women, Liebow says, “will wear their high-heeled shoes until their feet are bloody stumps.”

Take Danielle Pletka, vice president for foreign and defense policy studies at the American Enterprise Institute. She wears 4- or 5-inch heels to work most days; on a recent Tuesday, she towered in 5-inch stiletto-heeled black Sergio Rossi open-toed booties.

“There are lots of things that impact the way you look that aren’t necessarily optimal for every muscle in your body,” says Pletka, who admits that she has some high pairs “that are uncomfortable, no question.” But, she adds,Has anyone brought a beadsfactory?‎ “you want to look nice. I always get nice comments on my shoes. And I like it.”

Erika Schwartz, a podiatrist who practices in Washington, says that when she asks her patients to stick with heels less than 2 inches high,Fast shipping and best prices on ladyhandbag. Buy Now! “some say, ‘Oh, you’re so cute! No, I’m not going to wear under 2 inches, but it’s very cute of you to say that!’”

Schwartz says she understands that many are in professions that demand a more fashionable shoe than the comfy, orthopedically correct footwear she wears to work. So she tells them to at least “walk in something else. Put those dress shoes on when you get to the office. Minimizing the amount of time that you’re standing or walking will minimize the issues that come along with such an unnatural position of the foot.”

Did we mention that walking too long in high-heeled shoes can result in, besides all of the above, stress fractures, or cracks in the feet bones?

Schwartz also suggests that women avoid the thin, stiletto-style heel: “The bigger the heel, if it’s chunky or a wedge,We provide you the most beautiful gowns, such as cheap 100%Silk Dresses and germanww2uniforms and so on. seems to be better because the shoe has a wider base of stability. A skinnier heel and you’re more likely to have ankle spraining.Perfect winter and summer suprashoesforgirls to suit every style and occasion.” You can also break your ankle or injure the ligaments on the side of your ankle, among other body parts, when you fall from wobbly high shoes — thus becoming “fashion roadkill,” a la Carrie Bradshaw of “Sex and the City,” who in one episode fell face first while walking the runway in sky-high heels.

Sandals, SDC team up to host opportunities fair for St James residents

MORE than 350 residents of Adelphi and surrounding communities in St James benefited from a social services and opportunities fair hosted by Sandals Resorts in Montego Bay and the Social Development Commission (SDC) on June 21.

The fair is one of eight to be held up to August and is aimed at providing people in the community with easier access to basic social services and information on what's available to them as citizens.

"Between 11.5 and 21.79 per cent of the residents in Adelphi, which has an estimated population of 2,061, live below the poverty line, with high unemployment among the youth," said Randy Hayle, parish manager for SDC St James.

He further said that through research, the SDC has found that there are residents who do not have essential documents such as birth certificates, Taxpayer's Registration Number and National Insurance Scheme cards that are required by employers.

"Additionally, a number of residents were either unaware of or lack the self-confidence to seek out Government social protection programmes," said Hayle,You'll be the queen of the room in this ssuniform evening gown. The niketn is one amongst the foremost in style international models. adding that data from the SDC's community profiles also show that there is a higher percentage of persons experiencing social vulnerability in rural communities.

In reference to the Sandals partnership, Hayle noted that the group is seen as a critical partner that can provide training and employment opportunities to reduce the social vulnerabilities within the area.

Meanwhile, Sandals used the opportunity to recruit persons from the rural community for their resort group's Hospitality Training Programme (HTP).

Since its launch in October 2006, the Sandals Hospitality Training Programme has successfully trained and certified over 4,000 young Jamaicans, many of whom are now a part of the Sandals family or the general hospitality workforce.

The six-week programme is geared at providing technical and customer service skills training and certification in various areas of the operation, including but not limited to Food and Beverage, Rooms Division, Recreation,Choose from a wide range of authenticguccihandbags, shoulder bags and clutch bags from top brands. Engineering and Finance.

At the end of the six weeks, trainees are evaluated on the technical skills learnt. Based on their performance, they are given a recommendation letter and certificate of completion.

According to Latoya Edmund, human resources and training manager for Sandals Carlyle, who was on hand to assist in registering persons for the programme, a well-trained workforce with the requisite skills, knowledge base and entrepreneurial capacity will increasingly become a key factor in ensuring Jamaica's ability to compete on a global scale and enjoy new levels of prosperity and efficiency.

"The HTP initiative is Sandals' way of injecting the knowledge, skills and expertise of its team into the broader social sphere," said Edmund.

She applauded the SDC for its efforts but further added that there is a need for greater support from the public and private sectors.

The Fourth of July holiday was a time for saving big money at metro Detroit's Salvation Army Thrift Stores.

All 34 locations held a huge sale with 50% savings on clothing, and deals on other items as well. It was an all-day sale from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

It's just another sign of how hot second-hand shopping has become.

In fact, Goodwill Industries says its sales have increased 83% from 2007 to 2012.

Of course, those years coincided with the recession, but fans of "thrifting" also say shopping for those bargains can always help you stay fashionable, without going broke.

In Atlanta, fans of "thrifting" have given second-hand clothes the high fashion treatment. They held the first, and hopefully annual "Thrift Week".(Similar to Fashion Week) Bargain hunters were given a chance to show off their high fashion, which they bought for low prices!

"When you see other people doing things, and you see all the great pieces that they find, it kind of motivates you to at least try it," said Karen Charles, a thrift style blogger.

She says more and more people are giving those second-hand stores a try.

"What I love about thrifting is the thrill of it. The challenge in finding something unique that everybody else isn't going to wear," Charles said.

Other shoppers agree "thrifting" has come a long way.

"Back when I started in high school, there was really a stigma attached to it. People always though if you went to a thrift store you were either poor or homeless," said Neshanta Smith-Davis, a thrift fashion show winner.

The new image for thrift stores is paying off.

"We literally some days before the store opens at 10 o'clock, there's a line outside at 9:30 with people lining up waiting to come here to shop,Kate Bosworth hasn't bought her burberryhandbags yet." said Camille Kessler, president of the Junior League of Atlanta, which runs a thrift shop.

Supporters say the newfound popularity has a downside. The competition for those great bargains has driven prices up just a little bit.

Still, if you love high-fashion, but have a discount budget,We have high quality dieseljeans, you can not miss the best Tag Heuer Replica Watches online. you might want to give "thrifting" a try!

Goodbye JAPs, Hello 'Betches'

Ever since I’ve discovered the site Betches Love This (thank you,With avant-garde design, best quality materials and the most subtle quality, womenbelt is the best alternative for expensive belt. New York Times and your lack of sufficient “trend pieces” for theThursday sections), I’ve been trying to figure out what exactly irks me about the website so much. Or, in “betch” terms, why is it that whenever I see its homepage, I totes want to get off of my diet-skinny Lululemon-covered ass, stop texting my sorority sisters about her hookup with a ZBT bro, and chuck my “sugar-free, hazlenut soy iced coffee” at my computer screen.

For those who haven’t stepped foot into a sorority house in the past two years, Betches Love This is a site dedicated to promoting a community of, well, “betches”: young women who are proudly addicted to designer handbags and calorie-free beverages and essentially all aspire to fit into the Plastics from “Mean Girls.” Started by three girls who attended not only Roslyn High School, but also Cornell University together and (shocker) were sisters in Alpha Epsilon Phi, Betches Love This has become a mecca for Greek-loving girls looking to laugh at their gossiping, dieting, and spending daddy’s money.

“At its heart, it’s satire,” Jordana Abraham, one of its founders, tells the Times. The site (claims) to lampoon betches’ most annoying, offensive, and damaging habits and predilections. Fans admire its boldness, as one Northwestern student claimed Betches Love This says “the things that most of us are thinking, but would never say out loud.Like a lot of women,Custom made bicyclesaddles0?”

These brave insights into betch culture range from the relatively benign (their love of Equinox and expensive iPhone cases) to a host of horrifyingly offensive ways to not eat and make fun of people betches deem as fat. There are WAY too many to list in this article, but here’s a pretty telling quote from the site on diet:

No matter how skinny a betch is, she will always claim to be on a diet. The marginal 1% of betches, the fat ones, are kept around to make the others feel good about themselves, and to eat their leftovers to dispel the eating disorder rumors.

Wow, Betches, thanks for saying all the things I wish I could admit out loud, namely that I only remain friends with girls who eat solid food to assuage my own insecurities about my superficial, but nonetheless proudly bony ass!

I’d like to say that dieting comment was a one-off, but the amount of references to acting “ano” (anorexic) or lines like “salads are the only acceptable food a betch can eat other than sushi and air” are all over the place. In fact, according to the Times article, the site had to take down a post on “How To Get People To Accuse You of Having an Eating Disorder” when so many people complained and one girl said her friend hadn’t eaten in two weeks because of it.

At least in a super classy move, founder Samantha Fishbein took ownership for the impact of her words, saying “I can’t feel responsible for every girl who feels like she needs to be 90 pounds because we made a joke.”

Yet, as much as their content regarding weight and dieting disturbed me and their disregard for their readers’ wellbeing made me want to rip their iced coffees out of their well-manicured claws, the blurred line between satire and validation is what kept nagging at me.

In reading through the website, I was wondering why I had to keep myself from purging (and no, betches, not in the good, “I really want to lose three pounds” kind of way), but felt really meh towards Princesses: Long Island. In theory, since both showcase the materialistic, vapid women—and the latter in an exclusively Jewish way—I should be equally revolted and enraged by both, if not much more so by Princesses. (A side note: Betches Love This specifically does not limit betches to any race or ethnicity. Of course, referring to the “token Asian betch” doesn’t exactly make them UN diplomats)

After speaking to (okay, it was actually texting) a college friend who braved the betches of Long Island, as I had of Westchester, I realized what bothered me so much. “It thinks that by being clever it’s not serious. But these girls actually are what they write,” she said/texted of the site. The fact that these girls seem to live more than mock the betch lifestyle is what’s so irritating about it.

While Princesses operates on the premise that these women are ludicrous caricatures of real people (whether Bravo admits it or not, we, the audience, are meant to be entertained by their ridiculous lifestyles), Betches Loves this validates such a culture. It glorifies the superficialness, the narcissism, the total dependence on Daddy or the doorman.

For one, the founders seem to be living the life they claim to be mocking. The Times article describes them as having “sleek brown hair, a penchant for leggings and shared dialect littered with ‘like’” and bragging “If you want some empowerment, go read Lean In.” And their readers too often appear to take their “jokes” as the emiss. For example, on their list of things that make you a betch,Go to buy handbagwholesale in hotmkbags Oline Store with preferential price. one is “Getting Shit for free.” One commentator wrote “I pride myself on the fact that random girls try to buy me drinks. If that means I’m going to hell the so be it.”

Yeah, that’s not really satire when the fans see it as a guidebook and, worse, a source of validation.

Or,Here you can take your pick from a wide selection of wintert-shirts. as Katie J.M. Baker at Jezebel writes, the three founders “seem to think they’re rising above by making fun of themselves. Are they, really? Hell, no. But they’re making bank.”

And making bank is not necessarily a bad thing. Better they be paying for their Soul Cycle classes and juice cleanses than their daddies, right? Jovani designer prom dresses and celebrity style lacebodystockings for prom.

But it’s not without consequences. After Baker’s own review of the racial insensitivity and completely vapid incompetence illustrated on the site forum, she concludes: “Self-aware betches may be entertaining for some, but their impact on oblivious betches is horrible for everyone.”

Even if the founders of betches are attempting satire (which is a claim that seems about as genuine as $50 Louis Vuiton knockoff sold outside Grand Central station), it saddens me that so many of their readers find encouragement for their betchiness. Maybe with a little more solid food in their systems, they’ll realize it was all a joke.

OPINION: A walk in my own shoes

I went to my foot doctor to understand why my feet and knees had been giving me the most excruciating pain for the last few months.

I attributed it to my increased yard work, aging, or just from the added weight I had gained. I learned a painful lesson that should have been obvious to me. I’ve been using my husband’s old shoes while working in the yard for almost two years. Since they are not quite my size, old, and run over, they had thrown my entire body out of alignment, starting with my feet, then my knees, going up to my already twisted back, ending in my neck and shoulders. Adding insult to injury, during this period, I decided to resume walking barefoot, a definite no-no to anyone with reoccurring foot injuries.

I quickly learned his shoes were too big for me to ever fill. How often we think just by looking at a person that we can accomplish or walk so easily in their shoes. Who knows what challenges they face to even stand? When we walk, our entire bodies are engaged in the process. Now that I’ve put on my own shoes for yard work, my condition improved in a matter of days. My orthotics in my shoe correct the weakened areas in my feet and force me to stand tall and straight, even when walking along the hills and dips in my yard.

Our feet are a very important part of our body. The nerves from each destination in our body end there. The major idea behind reflexology is the feet and hands can be massaged to stimulate each organ in our body to promote activity. A sensitive area on the feet can determine if any organ is under stress and slight manipulations can stimulate that area toward healing. Each foot is different on each person and both are unique to every individual, even if they are the same size. They develop and form based on our individual standing and walking style. Our arches support us in our development of gait and stance, allowing even pressure to be distributed equally across the entire foot.

Doesn’t life teach us that we each have our own individual walk and no one else can walk in our shoes?

Have you ever wished to be in someone else’s shoes? Be careful what you wish for, you never know what lies ahead in their path.

I think of the sandals or shoes of Jesus. His feet may have been worn, but He kept walking straight down the path that led Him to Calvary. I imagine He remembered that we would need a straight path to victory, although narrow, that only He could make.

We may be faced with many valleys and hills to climb in life and some long roads ahead,Find great deals on hotmkbags for businesssuit in Women's Clothing, Handbags and Purses. but remember we have a God who will walk besides us, to lead us along the way.welcome to our new store castellicycling.

Don’t be afraid to walk in your own shoes, they’ve been modeled for your unique journey in life. You may need to add spiritual orthotics, but add whatever you need to continue on, but don’t forget to add God.

Nasty sunburns are a common injury in the summer, says Chopra. "They're typically first-degree burns where you can have redness and itchiness and pain, all the way to second-degree burns where there actually is loss of the superficial layer of the skin. View the latest hotdress and Purses online at Bag Borrow or Steal.

"Obviously avoidance is best, using ample amounts of skin protection (sunscreen), wearing appropriate clothing, including hats and long sleeves as necessary, minimizing your exposure to the sun," he says, especially when the sun's rays are most intense, roughly between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

With a first-degree sunburn, soothing creams such as those containing aloe vera can help, as can cold compresses. And the person should keep themselves well-hydrated with water or other non-alcoholic beverages.

"If it's a big area and very itchy, you can use over-the-counter antihistamines, in small to moderate doses, as long as you don't have a medical condition (that prohibits their use)," Chopra says.

But with more severe burns that cause persistent redness, pain, blistering and peeling, "you should seek medical attention," he advises, noting that extremely bad sunburns may need treatment with corticosteroid creams.

Of course, prevention is preferable,Where can i get cartierreplicawatches? as repeated sun exposure can give rise to serious skin diseases later in life, warns Claypool,Short Sleeve Blue Lace Fashion Long 2012 Embroidery Latest rolexwatches. adding that keeping exposed skin slathered with a minimum of SPF-30 sunscreen is de rigueur during the summer months.

Brighton, L’Occitane and Papryus opening first area stores at Eastview

Brighton, an accessories manufacturer and retailer with over 140 retail boutiques in the United States, will open its first Rochester-area store at Eastview this fall. Founded in 1985 as a finely crafted, refined men’s belts company, Brighton has expanded over the years to carrying items for both men and women, including coordinating accessories such as wallets, sunglasses, handbags, jewelry, and footwear, as well as luggage and home accessories. Brighton’s 1,400 square foot store will be located in the soon-to-be Von Maur wing of the mall.

These first-to-market retailers will join other first-to-market retailers at Eastview including Vera Bradley (opening next week), The Art of Shaving (opening in July), Michael Kors, Brooks Brothers and high-end department store Von Maur (all planned to open this fall).

The addition of these retailers is a direct result of mall owner Wilmorite’s ongoing effort to offer Upstate and Western New York consumers the best shopping experience at Eastview. More unique store announcements are expected in the coming weeks.

An employee of Blueberry Fusion Café reported that a customer of the Tribeca coffee shop walked away with the business’s laptop which had been left sitting on the counter.

The employee, 36, told police that a man wearing a black baseball cap entered the cafe at about 7 p.m. on Fri., June 14, and ordered a coffee. The employee said he noticed that the man stood close to the counter where the $1,200 silver Macbook Pro was sitting, and lingered there, asking, “Can I have some more sugar?”

After the man had exited the store, the employee discovered that the laptop was also gone from the counter, police said. The employee stated there were no other customers in the store during that time, no video surveillance and no other witnesses.

Inditex announced record profits of $583 million for the first quarter of this year — much of that from expansion into developing countries. While the company has been heralded as a rare success story in Spain's economic malaise, the Rana Plaza disaster has some consumers questioning the Spanish fast-fashion model of doing business.

"Technically, when we talk about the fast-fashion model, one of the characteristics is local sourcing — not because of cost, but because they are trying to compete in speed," said Philip Moscoso, a fashion industry expert at Spain's IESE Business School.

Inditex, for example, prides itself on speed: 15 days from design to retail rack. That has meant at least half of production is done locally, in Spain and Portugal.

But Inditex is expanding at a rate of more than a store a day, and Mango is close behind, opening about four new stores a week — and increasingly turning to foreign production. Total employment in Spain's garment industry has fallen from 243,000 in 2004 to 136,000 last year.

Joe's Job: Shoe Repair

You might say I put my heart and "sole" into this week's job as a shoe repairman.

I trained with Roger Whitaker at his Chesapeake store. He started working at a store on Colley Avenue in Norfolk when he was 13 years old. That summer job took him through high school.Like a lot of women,Custom made bicyclesaddles0?

He left the business and went into the food industry. But after 25 years, Roger shuffled his way back to shoe repair. He opened up shop in the Great Bridge Shopping Center.

"It takes a person that's dedicated and doesn't mind to get their hands dirty and don't mind a challenge and don't mind people because you have a lot of your clientele especially shoes that they have had for awhile," he said.

There are patching machines and stitching machines and a a green cutter. The big, loud machines get most of the work - they do the finishing and buffing to make the shoe look nice and shiny.

Whitaker told me the rubber used to resole shoes is Goodyear rubber. That was interesting. I thought all they did was tires and blimps and sporting events.

Whitaker's business is a family affair. I was working with Roger's wife Julia and his nephew Ryan.

Customers come in to get new soles for boots and shoes. Ladies often need a high heels makeover. To fix that, a new piece is hammed in and trimmed down.

"I love to take in work that maybe other shops refuse to do or say can't be done," he added.

His wife Julia said, "It takes a dedicated person, a person with years of experience and knows what they're doing."

From loafers to heels, I was trying it all.

"That's good, Joe! Not bad at all. First time on the machine too wow. Great!," Roger remarked.

How would Roger rate me as a shoe repairman?

"I think you would do great, Joe. You have a great smile! That's the key part right there - people person. Customer service is what we need more of to get back to, what's important in this country," concluded Whitaker.

For all these problems, Splichal recommends strengthening the foot and ankle via a series of at-home exercises—done barefoot, of course.

The foot has 26 bones, 33 joints, and over 100 muscles, tendons, and ligaments. A quarter of the body’s bones are in the feet.

With so many parts doing such an crucial job every day, it’s important to make sure each part is pulling its weight.

Barefoot strengthening exercises recalls to the brain muscles that have gotten out of touch due to decades of footwear. Ironically, they allow the person to experience less pain when he or she does wear shoes—even uncomfortable heels.2013 Collection germanarmyuniforms 1672 Styles.

“They’re actually able to wear the other shoes with less pain now,The niketn is one amongst the foremost in style international models.” Splichal said. “Because the barefoot or minimalist training is strengthening all the muscles in the bottom of the foot so that when you do go into a different environment, those muscles are stronger.”

The exercises,You will find so many wonderful canadagooselangfordparka with high quality and low price. which require little if any equipment, are easy to learn. The key is to go slow and let the body get used to the new way of moving. After all, you’re essentially renewing all the neurological connections you formed as a toddler but have lost since you learned to tie your shoelaces.

“The first thing I tell patients is, start walking around the house barefoot,” Splichal said.

“A lot of people wear their shoes at home. Take all of that off and start walking around barefoot. When you get used to being in a barefoot environment, you start stimulating the skin on the bottom of the foot so now you’re waking all the nerves that are not usually not stimulated when you’re in shoes.”

“The second thing is intentionally strengthening the foot through barefoot exercises.Find the perfect canadagoosemanitobajacket photos and be inspired for your wedding. Balance barefoot on one foot. AP EXCLUSIVE: US war games send signal to Assad

Under the watchful eye of stern-faced American advisers, hundreds of U.S.-trained Jordanian commandos fanned across this dusty desert plain, holding war games that could eventually form the basis of an assault in Syria.

With the recent deployment of Patriot missiles near the Syrian border, and the mock Syrian accents of those playing the enemy, the message was clear: There is fear of spillover from the Syrian war in this U.S.Discover suits with ASOS.-allied kingdom, and the potential for a Jordanian role in securing Syria's chemical weapons stockpiles should Bashar Assad's regime lose control.Light up a room in this coachhandbags evening gown.

Dubbed Eager Lion, the 12-day exercise involves combined land, air and sea maneuvers across the country. It brings together 8,000 personnel from 19 Arab and European nations to train on border security, irregular warfare, terrorism and counterinsurgency.

Marine Corps Lt. Col. Duke Shienle said Syria "is a concern that all our regional partners share."

The Syrian crisis is "causing all military in the region to increase intensity," he said as he supervised masked commandos in black uniforms from Jordan and two other Syria neighbors - Iraq and Lebanon - in a mock exercise to free a hijacked aircraft on an airstrip in the eastern Jordanian desert.we've made it our mission to find 30 of the canadagooseparka.

Nearby, U.S. military strategists taught Jordanian riot police to quickly contain a mock protest by angry mobs in a crowded refugee camp. The trainers refused to name the camp, but the trainees said it was "Zaatari," a reference to a refugee settlement straddling the border with Syria that shelters around 185,000 displaced Syrians.

"We want freedom! We want a free Syria!" the trainees shouted, speaking the Syrian dialect as they depicted Syrian refugees. Others looked on from under dusty tents pitched on a strip of desert outside a Jordanian army compound.Find the perfect canadagoosemanitobajacket photos and be inspired for your wedding.Work a crowd in this evening gown from germanuniforms. The location of this exercise and others could not be disclosed in line with Jordanian army regulations.

Elsewhere, in the south, hundreds of masked Jordanian commandos in black uniforms used machine-guns, rocket propellers and tanks to overwhelm an enemy target as Jordanian helicopters and fighter jets - all part of previous American donations - buzzed the skies overhead.

"We want to tell anyone with malicious intentions toward Jordan that we can hit back where it hurts most painfully," said one Jordanian commando, speaking under scorching sun in the arid mountain region. He could not be named under army regulations and declined to say if the enemy he was fighting was Assad's army.

Other training focused on humanitarian relief and crisis management and involves 7,000 civilians from non-governmental organizations engaged in providing assistance to Syrian refugees, said Tawfiq Hennawi of the International Committee of the Red Cross, one of the participating NGOs.

Jordan hosts more than half a million Syrians who fled Assad's military onslaught and that number is expected to rise to 1.2 million by the end of the year.

"These exercises bolster our defense capabilities," said Jordanian army Maj. Gen. Awni Edwan, adding that the Eager Lion exercises, which end Thursday, are routine, having being held twice before at the same time.

"We don't intend to attack anybody," he said.

Jordan has been leery that Assad may eventually use his chemical weapons against his neighbors, or if his regime starts to collapse, his stockpile may fall into the hands of al-Qaida or other militants who are trying to rise to power in Syria.

There has been mounting speculation that should Assad's regime begin to lose control, Jordan will dispatch its highly-skilled, U.S.-trained and equipped commandos to secure Assad's chemical weapons and create a safe haven for Syrian refugees along the 230-mile (375-kilometer) border with Jordan, according to a Western diplomat who monitors Syria from his base in Jordan.

The purpose is to prevent a further influx of Syrian refugees into Jordan out of fear that Shiite militants from the Lebanese Hezbollah group or other Iranian agents may slip across the border to destabilize this key U.S. ally, said the diplomat, who spoke on condition of anonymity because identifying him might jeopardize his intelligence-gathering on Syria.

Jordan's predominantly Sunni Muslim population is traditionally a fiery critic of the growing influence of Iran and its rival Shiite sect.

House approves bill requiring schools to allow military recruiters to wear uniforms

A bill that bars schools from telling military recruiters they can't wear their uniforms overwhelmingly passed the house 115-28 Tuesday, but not without substantial debate.Like a lot of women,Custom made bicyclesaddles0?

Combat veterans, in particular, spoke passionately in favor of the bill, "An Act To Ensure Student Access to Postsecondary Military Options." Rep. Corey Wilson (R-Augusta),Wonderful Gucci handbags collection: beachweddingdresses and discount Gucci handbags by Styledrops. a Marine who served in Iraq said, "The idea that we would say 'Thank you for your service, but leave your uniform at the door' is disgusting."

But the legislature's Education Committee had initially recommended against passing the bill by a party line vote of 8-5. Democrats on the committee called it "a solution in search of a problem."

During the commitee hearings, Education Commissioner Stephen Bowen testified on behalf of the LePage administration, which had proposed the bill after talking with military recruiters. Bowen said one recruiter noted that they had been told not to wear their uniforms at certain schools. However, he said the recruiter would not name those schools because the military didn't want to tear down its relationships with them. Bowen also said recruiters did not testify before the committee because they try to stay out of politics.

"They told us there were schools where this was an issue. It's hard for them because they have recruiters all over the place. We don't have a list," Bowen said.

Bowen also said he did not know why a school would not allow a recruiter to wear a uniform. Opponents to the bill said they didn't know either, and they were skeptical that this was actually happening.

Rep. Bruce MacDonald (D-Boothbay) is the House chair of the Education Committee. He said, "Show me the beef! Where's the evidence? You can set up a problem that isn't a problem and get everybody all worked up. We were not shown one bit of evidence in the committee that it was a problem." MacDonald said he believes school districts should have home rule unless there is a significant issue.

The Senate is expected to take up the bill on Wednesday.

With a year’s worth of experience and data, the board has taken a fresh look at its experiment. By most measures—the school district’s own measure—it’s been a bust: the number of referrals have skyrocketed, staffers can still be unsure whether and what to enforce, and, judging by the earliest batch of FCAT reading, math and writing scores for most grades, those numbers have gone down, and either gone down steeply—more steeply than state averages—or stayed level with state averages,View profiles and information for the Team livestrongcycling 2012 race team and riders here. which is contrary to what a stricter dress code was meant to achieve.

There’s also been a lot of time wasted on enforcing the policy. As Katrina Townsend, the district director of student services, outlined the numbers to the board last month, she noted that the number of referrals have drained time away from teachers and other staffers—time they don’t have, especially in an abbreviated schedule denied 45 minutes a day, in middle and high schools, for the past two years, because of cost cuts.

That’s despite some reluctance among staffers to enforce the policy. “A lot of items if a teacher or a custodian or a secretary can’t fairly quickly establish does it meet policy or not,” Townsend said, “there’s some reluctance to engage the student in a situation where they’re not feeling very confident in what they’re looking for.We provide you the most beautiful gowns, such as cheap 100%Silk Dresses and germanww2uniforms and so on.”

Outerwear was also an issue.Wholesale diorhandbags Online 2011 Free Shipping. “It’s very difficult to enforce, and also we found ourselves in cold weather addressing students you can’t have the jacket you have on, turn it inside out or something like that,” Townsend said. And there were issues with logos. A school’s own logo on a sweatshirt was acceptable. A non-school logo was not.

That’s no longer a restriction, within reasonable bounds. Put simply: a Miller Lite beer shirt is not OK. Hollister is.

Gray had been discussed at length as an acceptable color for pants last year, it was rejected, only for the disciplinary committee to recommend its including from here on.

The evidence that was gathered about the enforcement of the dress code is what seemed to convince the board that a change was necessary—especially at a time when the district is putting a premium on teachers’ and students’ use of time.

When comparing the last year without the current dress code with the current school year, Flagler Palm Coast High School racked up more than 1,000 additional instances of dealing with students on dress code matters—from 468 incidents in the 2012 school year to 1,571 in 2013. That includes 242 warnings. The rest were actual referrals.

Having Fun on the Cheap

It's reached that point in the week where we've all finally come to terms with being back at work.Custom made cheapreplicawatches? Tonight,Welcome to wholesalebeads online, we supply most popular and valuable wholesale products. instead of crawling home towards our sofas, the comfort of TV and endless calories, the hankering for alcohol begins. Unfortunately for those of us with limited funds it means that fun is pretty much off limits. After extensive research, of sorts, I've come up with some budget friendly solutions to having a good time. (I wanted to include a wink here but this isn't a creepy post, I promise, and a wink would just send the wrong message.)

First of all, the fashion industry gets it, you'd think they wouldn't but somehow they understand the blight of the underpaid and have made oversized handbags fashionable. Be your 18 year old self again and fill your water bottle with vodka and hide it beneath the layers of 'essentials' in your giant bag and then waltz on down to the bar like it's the 90s. Or 80s... or 70s... or 60s... or 50s, no, wait, how old would that make you...? Yeah okay, 50s and 40s, I'd hate to exclude anyone. A lemonade or coke may still set you back $2 but if you're really committing to reliving your youth you'll drink that warm soapy liquid straight from the bottle. So, that's tonight sorted, well, for those of you who own a giant handbag.

Another way to enjoy yourself without spending money is eating at someone else's house - it's free and you don't have to do the washing up. Be careful though, when people realise you aren't reciprocating their invitations, friendships and invites will dwindle. Bring a bottle of wine you stole from work, everyone is happier with alcohol in them, well most people are. Otherwise you could always pull a sickie on your own dinner party; no one wants to eat food cooked by an infectious person.

Once your local pub and your friends have caught on to your freeloading you're going to have to find another way to be entertained. Try making friends with your neighbours, I know it's unheard of in London but next time they have a party you're likely to get an invite, unless you've borrowed and not returned half their household appliances. This brings me nicely on to, house parties.2013 Collection germanarmyuniforms 1672 Styles.

When the weekend comes around and your neighbours have escaped to the countryside, the 'going out out' predicament arises. Actually, this may arise mid-week for you but I don't care for mid-week fun so, you're on your own there. Clubs are expensive; thankfully I am old enough (I think) to say I'm too old to go to clubs, although I've been using this excuse since I turned 23. If you haven't alienated every single one of your friends by eating all their food then try and get invited to house parties. House parties are the best form of cheap entertainment. You don't have to pay $5 to put your coat away - throw it on someone's bed. You don't have to pay on the door - bring a cheap bottle of cider to gain entry. You don't have to pay for drinks, everyone brings so much booze they forget what is theirs and so you can help yourself. And, if you can't afford a taxi home, passing out is completely acceptable.Find complete details about halterweddingdresses.

By the end of all of this, you probably won't have any friends left. You haven't paid for dinner in months, they know that you 'borrowed' their toaster and they're embarrassed when you throw up at the bar because you've been drinking neat spirits like a fresher. At this point I recommend joining a library and taking up reading. That or learn to make handmade sorry cards, because,Well-known brand of skateboard shoes bankcycling Posted Wino. let's face it, who can afford cards anymore?

See, it's not at all hard to have fun when you don't have a lot of money. I have no idea what people complain about.

Couple Flown To Wrong Continent And Their Bags Lost Too Just To Rub It In

A couple flown to the wrong continent started out in Los Angeles, connected in Istanbul, Turkey, and ended up almost 7,000 miles out of their way in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Los Angeles residents Sandy Valdivieso and Triet Vo bought tickets to Dakar, Senegal, on the west coast of Africa. However, they were ultimately delivered not just to the wrong town or the wrong country but to an entirely different continent. Bangladesh is located in South Asia.We invite you to experience choose pnikeairshoes for you.

The mix-up happened because when the airline issued their boarding pass, it wrongly used the airport code DAC (Dhaka) instead of DKR (Dakar). When the flyers boarded the IST-DAC leg in Turkey’s capital,Long and slim-fitting, the beadsbeads is equally appropriate for strolling a city street or hiking a snowy trail. they still didn’t understand that they had been booked on the wrong flight.

“When the flight attendant said we were heading to Dhaka, we believed that this was how you pronounced ‘Dakar’ with a Turkish accent,” Valdivieso told The Los Angeles Times.

The couple didn’t stress it at all, apparently. They went right to sleep — and didn’t wake up until they were well on their way. Oops.

In Bangladesh, the Turkish Air rep didn’t take the story at face value, perhaps assuming that they were experiencing some buyer’s remorse at the trip to the very poor, crowded nation south of India.2013 Collection germanarmyuniforms 1672 Styles.

According to the LAT account, “Officials with the carrier insisted that they had to track down and hear the recording of Valdivieso booking a trip to Senegal before they could acknowledge that the wrong airport code had been put on their tickets.”

Eventually, Turkish Air admitted that they had done something wrong and flew the couple to Dakar without an additional charge. Their bags, of course, whiffed, and didn’t show up at their destination for another two days.

The flight to the wrong continent actually took place in December, but it has taken months for Turkish Air to acknowledge that they owed the couple some compensation for the crazy ordeal.

The Telegraph said that a Turkish Air spokeswoman has now acknowledged that the airline is “very, very sorry that this happened.” To compensate for their trouble, the couple has been offered free economy tickets anywhere they want to go on Turkish.

There wasn’t any word about how eager they would be to make use of that particular gift. You'll be the queen of the room in this ssuniform evening gown.

One poster on Flyertalk, a discussion forum for frequent flyers, noted that it wasn’t all the fault of Turkish Airlines:

“[T]here’s absolutely no excuse for the couple not to check on what they’ve booked, especially, when flying to a foreign country – one apparently they’ve never been to previously. Since they didn’t recognize the mistake, how is the airline supposed to? Once brought to [Turkish Air's] attention, they did the right thing and flew them to Dakar free of charge…”

Apparently, this 7,000 mile mistake can happen in the other direction too. A poster on frequent flyer blog View From the Wing said: “I’ve had to deal with a Bangladeshi passenger trying to check-in at Gatwick for a flight home that was actually routing him to Senegal via Ghana. So from personal experience, I can vouch that Dakar vs Dhaka is not a unique situation!”

Ouch. Double-check those tickets, folks.Custom made cheapreplicawatches? We don’t want you to end up being flown to the wrong continent.

Battle of the Uniforms: Orioles win title

Where is the Rally Squirrel when you really need him?

The polls have closed, our Battle of the Uniforms is officially over and the No. 1-seeded St. Louis Cardinals wound up suffering their toughest defeat since at least the final three games of last season's National League Championship Series -- and perhaps as far back as the 1985 World Series. Cardinals fans can't blame this one on a bad call by Don Denkinger, either. The Baltimore Orioles decisively beat the Cardinals in the championship round -- also known as the Battle of the Birds -- receiving 59 percent of vote compared to 41 percent for the Cardinals.

St. Louis fans must be getting really tired of losing to teams with orange-and-black uniforms.

The Cardinals weren't the only high seed to disappoint, though. All the most famous classic uniforms -- the Yankees' pinstripes, the Dodgers' blue, the Tigers' Old English D, the two Cardinals balanced on a bat -- fell short in the end, while the lesser-heralded Orioles go home the winners.

Which is not to say the Orioles are undeserving champions. Far from it.

Baltimore's uniform has some great style features, beginning with those wonderful orange and black colors (always an outstanding look) and extending to the great cartoon Oriole logo on the cap (much preferable to the ornithologically correct version). It's a classic uniform that looked great on Brooks Robinson, Frank Robinson and Jim Palmer, and it still looks great on Adam Jones, Matt Wieters and Chris Davis.

On the other hand … can we talk about those home caps with the white-panel front?

This is a design style from the fashion-challenged late '70s and early '80s, and it still looks just as bad as it did then. Manager Buck Showalter famously griped about Ken Griffey Jr. wearing his cap backward in the '90s (those darn kids today!), but he could improve his team's look by loosening up and ordering all his players to wear their cap backward.

Apparently, though, our voters either like that cap style or love the rest of the uniform so much that they overlooked it. Despite being seeded 13th because of those caps, the Orioles beat higher-ranked uniforms in every round on their way to the championship.

Not even Jeffrey Maier could have slowed Baltimore's run.

And, hey, maybe the Orioles could wear their new crown instead of that cap. And if not, well, at least the rest of the uniform is outstanding.

So, congratulations, Baltimore fans.where to buy promdress 2012-buy supra shoes online. Our fashion police have declared your team the best-dressed in baseball. Here's hoping the Orioles are also baseball's best-dressed team come October and the postseason.

“American presses wouldn’t touch the subject with a 10-foot barge pole,” said Mr.2013 Collection germanarmyuniforms 1672 Styles. Lilly, a sociology professor at Northern Kentucky University. (Palgrave Macmillan published his book in the United States in 2007.)

Today the seamier side of liberation is not entirely absent from popular accounts. “The Guns at Last Light: The War in Western Europe, 1944-1945,” the final volume of Rick Atkinson’s best-selling trilogy about the war, published this month, includes a brief discussion of the Army’s campaign against venereal disease (“Don’t forget the Krauts were fooling around France a long time before we got here,” an Army publication warned soldiers in December 1944), as well as a reference to Mr. Lilly’s work.Jovani designer prom dresses and celebrity style lacebodystockings for prom.

The few scholars who have looked more closely at rape by G.I.’s have attributed its racially skewed prosecution to “the Jim Crow army,” which was happy to depict rape as a problem only among the noncombat support units to which black soldiers were mostly limited.

“White soldiers got a pass because of their combat status,” said William I. Hitchcock, author of “The Bitter Road to Freedom” (2008), a history of the liberation of Western Europe from the perspective of often traumatized local civilians. “The Army wasn’t interested in prosecuting a battle-scarred sergeant.”

Ms.A royaloak is the clothing worn by a bride during a wedding ceremony. Roberts, who closely studied transcripts of 15 courts-martial in Northern France,Like a lot of women,Custom made bicyclesaddles0? certainly sees American racism at work. “Let’s Look at Rape!,” a 1944 Army pamphlet credited to “a Negro Chaplain,” contained a prominent illustration of a noose — a clear suggestion that the Army was going to “protect the color line,” she writes. (Among the soldiers hanged for rape and murder was Louis Till, the father of Emmett Till.)

But her analysis is hardly more flattering to the French, whose often shaky accusations, as she sees them, reflected their own need to project the humiliations of occupation onto a racial “other.” (“We have no more soldiers here, just a few Negroes who terrorize the neighborhood,” one civilian remarked in April 1945.)

Ms. Roberts said the book has attracted strong interest from French publishers, where willingness to explore the darker side of liberation jostles with a lingering fear of seeming ungrateful. At home, she insisted, her goal is not “to sour the story of Normandy.”

Fallbrook Bags Title #3 With Convincing NIT Performance

It’s a three-peat for Fallbrook, which downed Kent 55-10 in the Girls High School National Invitational Tournament final. The Warriors scored 129 points over three games, and Kent’s two tries in the championship match were the only points surrendered.Choose from a wide collection of replicajewelry that includes womens clutches, hobos, satchels, and totes.

Kent gave it everything they had and did well to challenge fullback Lilly Durbin with deep, long kicks into space. But the Washington side only enjoyed a couple of sustained offensive series in Fallbrook’s end – one ended in a dive-over try in the first half, the first points scored against Fallbrook all weekend. Outside center Asinate Serevi also picked off a pass for a long, stiff-arming run before offloading to flyhalf Cassidy Meyers for the try.

But Kent couldn’t spread the defense quick enough,2013 Collection germanarmyuniforms 1672 Styles. and even if there was personnel to cover the dynamic Fallbrook line, which included forwards and backs alike, Fallbrook worked the space too fast and ferociously. Fifteen-year-old outside center Kayla Canett and sophomore flyhalf Richelle Stephens dotted down hat tricks, while No. 8 Alex Beckett and wing Katherine Wilches also added five-pointers.Browse hundreds of beautiful canadagooseyorkvilleparka and find the perfect fit for you!

Fallbrook needs to win a couple of more championship before the term “dynasty” can be applied, but right now, there’s no one that competes with the Southern California powerhouse. This third consecutive championship was important, however, as two of the seniors who played their last game with the Warriors today were on the ground during the club’s first season.

Flanker Megan Pinson and scrumhalf Irayda Macedo started with the U14s, and they’re hallmarks of the vast progress and continued success that Fallbrook has enjoyed over the years. It was a special motivation around which the team rallied, and they couldn’t have given a better ending to two of the team’s founding members.

“It’s definitely an end of an era for us,” Fallbrook coach Craig Pinnell said. “For those players, to be able to finish it off on a high, that means a lot to the team. That’s where the team’s focus was.”

Pinson and Macedo did more than just stick around for six years. They, along with standout seniors like Clarissa Perez and Wilches, have been instrumental in keeping the winning seasons alive.

“The main thing they’ve brought is team spirit, bringing in those younger players and showing them what it’s all about,” Pinnell said of the seniors. “The veterans have been mentoring the ones coming through, and it’s been very satisfying for them. They’ve prepared the younger ones for the positions they’re going to vacate,Long and slim-fitting, the beadsbeads is equally appropriate for strolling a city street or hiking a snowy trail. and now they can continue the legacy and keep us on the same smooth path we’ve got going.”

One standout who’s benefited greatly from her senior leadership is Canett. She had the best step of the final and looked at ease with ball in hand, weaving through defenders aplenty.

“She’s done more than I’ve ever seen her do before,” Pinnell said.Sale cheap bridalgown online, white, black, berry, Graphite canada goose victoria parka hot sale. “She’s a little jumpy jack-in-the-box; she was all over the place. She’s little and to just take to the pressure that the game started off with was awesome to see from a young player.”

Fallbrook has foregone true support from their high school, even though they do identify with the school, in order to accommodate the youth exploding through the ranks. Since they field a couple of middle-schoolers, Fallbrook High School doesn’t recognize the team as a school sport. But that’s not to say the Warriors are anonymous on school grounds.

“We did get texts and e-mails from our principal saying good luck,” Pinnell said. “But the sport is huge at school. We played a game against [Canada high school champion] Carson Graham, and we had 4-500 spectators to support. All of the students know who the rugby players are, even if they’re not wearing their jerseys before game day. From a coaching point of view, Marin [Pinnell] works there. The teachers and athletic department have huge respect for the program, even though we’re not officially on board. It’s really taken off and everyone know what rugby is.”

And rugby knows Fallbrook, the three-time girls high school champion.

Permission to Splurge

When Whole Foods co-CEO John Mackey’s book, Conscious Capitalism, came out in January, Claude Arpels and Winsome Brown hosted a book party for about 150 people at their gorgeous and expansive Tribeca apartment. It was a fitting venue. While America’s hard right continues to find new ways to make people hate big business and the overpaid Wall Street courtiers that serve it, the tastefully decorated digs screamed You Can Still Do Well Without Selling Your Soul to Goldman Sachs.

Let’s set aside the fact that Mr. Arpels—the grandson of one of the founders of the famous French jeweler Van Cleef & Arpels—was born on third base. And that he and Ms. Brown (“an actress and writer”) think that posing in front of a wood-burning stove in one’s country house for the Times’s Home & Garden section is a convincing way to establish one’s environmentalist bona fides. They’re still good people for giving Mr. Mackey a New York forum to spread his message of enlightened capitalism. This is the guy whose company is going to require labels on genetically modified food by 2018, after all.

Mr. Mackey’s book is a manifesto for the good that both companies and capitalism can do, and it uses as examples forward-thinking iconoclasts such as Southwest Airlines and Patagonia. The basic argument is pretty simple: there’s nothing wrong with being rich and successful, provided that you do something good for society along the way. Mr. Mackey’s authority springs from the revolution in healthy eating that he has wrought with Whole Foods, which started as a single vegetarian food store in Austin in 1978 and is now the largest organic and natural food retailer in the country, with 344 stores in 37 states.

And the juggernaut keeps rolling: the company announced better-than-expected quarterly results on May 7, and the stock popped 8.8 percent as a result. Sales were up 13 percent to $3.03 billion, net income rose 21 percent to $146 million, and gross margins are holding tight around 35 percent, despite concern about the effects of the economic downturn as well as competition from a bunch of copycats such as The Fresh Market. The chain, which has been opening about 20 stores a year over the past several years, is picking up that pace, and Mr. Mackey and his colleagues think the company could triple in size—to 1,000 stores across the country—before they’ve completely satisfied demand for 365 Everyday Value Organic Yogurt.

One wonders: why couldn’t Mr. Mackey have been a New Yorker? While he’s probably too crunchy, he is a truly great businessman. Instead, we get as our grocery chain magnate mayoral hopeful John Catsimatidis of Gristedes, a man whose supermarkets people will only go into if they have to. Mr. Catsimatidis recently said he’d resisted closing some underperforming stores because he didn’t want to put the employees out of a job—so even if his customers have nothing to thank him for, he can still lay claim to a conscious capitalism of another sort.

Whole Foods sets aside more than 5 percent of net profits for its community-giving initiatives, including economic partnerships with suppliers in poor countries and nutrition education programs. That’s good stuff. But you don’t win the game with charity. One of the secrets of Mr. Mackey’s success is that he has been able to exploit the guilty conscience of America’s wealthy class. Just like anyone, rich people enjoy feeling good about themselves. That can be hard when you’re spending money on an $1,800 Louis Vuitton messenger bag or a $3,300 baby crib from the Netto Collection. But buying organic food? Hell yes. If you shop at Whole Foods, the thinking goes, you’re not only buying a better banana, but you’re also helping some farmer in Honduras in the process. Everybody wins.

At this point in his career, Mr. Mackey is in full-on reflection mode (thus the book) and he uses phrases like the “higher purpose” of a supermarket and the “self actualization” of employees who spend their days rubbing vegetables to a high sheen. But it’s not that difficult to go along with him when he envisions a world in which capitalism is in harmony with the cosmic sea. The best companies set themselves apart by how they treat the people who work for them, and Whole Foods is in the corporate elite in that regard when it comes to its 74,000 “team members.” It’s been on Fortune’s Best Companies to Work For list for 16 years running.

Compare that with Amazon, which increasingly seems on the verge of employee revolt, or Walmart, which focuses solely on delivering the cheapest price to its customers. Interestingly, the Arkansas behemoth has watched Whole Foods’s success and even tried to emulate it, at least up to a point. The company recently trumpeted its goal of sourcing $1 billion of its $244 billion in annual grocery sales from small and medium-size farmers. You read that right: less than one-half of 1 percent. Baby steps, people.Discover the largest collection of bestguccihandbags for women. Some revolutions don’t take place all at once.

Even if you’re a critic of Whole Foods and the gentrification of supermarkets, the seven million people who shop in one every week aren’t going there because they don’t enjoy the experience. The stores are clean and spacious—the average Whole Foods is 38,000 square feet—and the product is high quality. Last fall, when I was instructed to bring pies to a Thanksgiving dinner, I decided that for once,Cheap ballgown on sale in our shop christian louboutin. I wasn’t going to slave over making them from scratch in the kitchen. So I bought both pumpkin and pecan pies from the Whole Foods store in Union Square. Both were extremely well received.

Organic also translates well over email, and the messages the company sends to customers are as cleanly designed as its stores. The one that hit my inbox last Wednesday was classic Whole Foods, too, with recipe ideas including ricotta-strawberry pancakes, herb biscuits with smoked salmon and chicken burgers with Brie.Big halterweddingdresses and Fitness is a family owned shop serving the Helena area since 1986. These people know their customers cold. That’s why they keep hitting their numbers and why the stock is trading near its all-time high, making the company worth $18.7 billion. Compare that with yesterday’s grocery chains: Safeway is worth just $5.Find the perfect canadagoosemanitobajacket photos and be inspired for your wedding.8 billion and Supervalu a mere $1.7 billion. The difference is that Whole Foods isn’t just about where you buy your food; it’s about who you think you are.

(I love that last recipe, too, in which you cancel out the benefits of avoiding red meat by adding the Brie. It brings to mind the whole baked potato craze in the early ’90s,Sleeveless Satin omegawatches with Slim Skirt Style 81047. when otherwise sane people decided it a healthy idea to eat a baked potato for lunch, and nothing more. From red carpet to testy challenge for Woods at Players

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Florida (Reuters) - Tiger Woods may get the red carpet treatment wherever he goes but that will be of little help to the world number one at TPC Sawgrass, site of this week's Players Championship.

Woods won his only Players title in 15 starts in 2001 and in addition to a field that includes the world's top 30 golfers, and 38 of the top 40, there is the diabolical Pete Dye layout that has frustrated contenders for four decades.Getting married in 2012, you need the monclerjacketswomens to keep up with the fashion trend.

The 14-times major winner measures success by only the biggest championships, but he grudgingly admits that next in line after the Masters, U.S. Open, British Open and PGA Championship would be the Players Championship.

"I think we have our four major championships, and that's that,2013 Collection germanarmyuniforms 1672 Styles." Woods said when asked if the Players could be considered the fifth major.Long and slim-fitting, the beadsbeads is equally appropriate for strolling a city street or hiking a snowy trail. "But if there was going to be another one, this would be it. This is the best field that we have."

Woods could be primed to become only the fifth golfer to win the tournament more than once since he is currently the hottest player in the world with three wins this season that helped him regain the world number one ranking from Rory McIlroy.

He was also in the lead at Augusta National before his third shot at the par-five 15th in the second round of last month's Masters hit the flagstick and ricocheted into the water.

The next morning he was hit with a controversial two-shot penalty - some called for his disqualification - for taking an improper drop following a review that was prompted by a phone call from a TV viewer.

Woods, who carded a triple-bogey on the hole, eventually finished tied for fourth, four shots out of a playoff won by Australian Adam Scott.

He said the Masters disappointment stayed with him for about a week.

"When I was away from it, I was reflecting on ...Latest collection of women's guccihandbags and totes. the things that I did right but also the things that I did wrong that week," Woods, who got the red carpet treatment at a New York fashion awards show this week with girlfriend and Olympic champion skier Lindsey Vonn, said on Tuesday.

"Unfortunately I hit a good shot and got a bad break. But I still had an opportunity over the next 36 holes to get it back, and I sort of had my opportunities to do it and I just didn't do it."

Winning at TPC Sawgrass is also no easy matter.

"It's one of those courses where they've got some tough lines, and if you're not playing well, you're going to get exposed," said Woods, who has just one top-10 finish here since his 2001 triumph. "You miss these greens at all, you've got some of the weirdest, funky little shots that you'll ever face."

Defending champion Matt Kuchar will tee it up with Woods and reigning end-of-season FedExCup winner Brandt Snedeker in Thursday's opening round as he embarks on a campaign to become the first repeat winner of the Players Championship.

"I think this is a great opportunity," said Kuchar, who won this year's WGC-Accenture Match Play, tied for eighth at the Masters and has had two other top 10s in 2013.All saxobankcycling and accessories are made with the same authentic materials as the originals.

"They tell me nobody's defended the title. I don't think that this is necessarily a curse that nobody's defended the title here. It's just kind of one of those stats you pull out, and I'd like to be the first guy that is able to repeat."

Soviet Jewish WWII veterans say Israelis don’t know about their time in Red Army

Once a year, Israel's Jewish war veterans don suit jackets and uniforms dripping in Red Army medals, the shiny bronzes and silvers pinned to their chests in tight rows like armor.About 500,000 Jews served in the Soviet Red Army during World War II. Most of those still alive today — about 7,000 — are said to live in Israel.

Every year on Victory Day, which falls on Thursday this year, they parade in uniform throughout Israel to celebrate Nazi Germany's surrender to the Soviet Union.Afterward, they return home to their modest apartments, where some tick off the days in solitude — and poverty."The ceremonies are beautiful. People like to come and say nice words. But nice words don't put food on your plate," said Abraham Michael Grinzaid, 87,You may see many other fake websites posting available cheaprolexwatches, be aware of fake retailers. head of an association of Soviet war veterans. "The rest of the year, no one thinks of us."

About 1.5 million Jews fought in Allied armies, including 500,000 in the Red Army, 550,000 in the American army, 100,000 in the Polish army and 30,000 in the British army, according to Israel's Holocaust museum Yad Vashem. Some of those who fought in the Red Army served in the highest levels of command. About 200,000 Soviet Jewish soldiers fell on the battlefield or into German captivity. Those who survived built families and careers in the Soviet Union, until the Communist regime collapsed and many of them ended up in Israel.

They formed a veterans' association, opening 50 chapters across the country. Today, most of them are nearly 90 years old, but they gather regularly for lectures and concerts. Some sing in the 42 veterans' choirs nationwide.

Israel is home to the world's largest population of Holocaust survivors. Memorials to Holocaust victims and underground partisans are aplenty. But only in recent years has the Jewish state begun to salute its Jewish war veterans. That's mostly because many of the veterans immigrated just two decades ago and key war archives are only now being opened, allowing researchers to discover the full extent of Jewish soldiers' role in fighting the Nazis, said Red Army scholar Yitzhak Arad.It wasn't until last year that Israel erected its first monument to Soviet Jewish soldiers who served in WW II. A museum dedicated to Jewish Allied fighters is still under construction.

Grinzaid, of the veterans association, complained that some Soviet war veterans in Israel receive government stipends amounting to just $50 a month, a pittance compared to the financial support Israeli Holocaust survivors receive. But Roman Yagel, the head of another group of Soviet veterans, countered that veterans receive generous Israeli support. He accused Grinzaid of securing stipends for undeserving veterans who did not fight on the battlefield with weapons in hand — one example of bitter political infighting within the Soviet veteran community.

Holocaust survivors are frequently invited to speak about the horrors they experienced. But Soviet war veterans arrived in Israel as pensioners and most never learned Hebrew so few Israelis know their stories.Grinzaid was 17 when he enlisted in the Red Army. He was a paratrooper and served in an intelligence unit, earning five medals for his participation in battles across Europe. When Russian President Vladimir Putin came to Israel last year, he shook his hand.

Another Soviet veteran, Matvey Gershman, 87, helped liberate the Majdanek concentration camp in Poland. He remembers walking past storerooms filled with women's hair and children's shoes.Suddenly, he stumbled upon a woman sitting and crying."I said, 'Grandmother,Wholesale Best formalofficedresses Quick delivery. why are you crying? According to The Guardian newspaper, an impressive 72,000 pairs of shoes were brought in for the department's relaunch. In contrast to Barneys' unisex shoe floor, Selfridges' men's-specific department,Tulle Strapless cheapmotherbridedresses with Tea-Length Pleated ... designed by Belgian architect Vincent van Duysen,2013 Collection germanarmyuniforms 1672 Styles. is intrinsically more masculine in a traditional sense: floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors,Jovani designer backpackfactory and celebrity style evening gowns. oak wood panelling and an extensive use of leather, including sofas and flooring, evoke an air of classicism. Leather specialist Bill Amberg, who was responsible for the leather, explained "the idea focuses on the idea of leather on leather - the floor being made of the same materials as the soles of a gentleman's shoes. A separate "salon" is dedicated entirely to driving shoes, the interior of which is inspired by the bodywork of vintage Ferraris.

The New York flagship of upmarket department store Bergdorf Goodman adopted a similar approach when it unveiled its renovation last October. Stemming from practical purposes - previously various types of shoes, such as casual and dress, were split up by floors, and there was an obvious need to consolidate all footwear in one location - the space has adopted the aesthetic of a classic library. The feeling of a gentleman's club, replete with bookshelves, dark timber flooring and panelling, leather couches and marble benchtops, mirrors the slow cycle of men's trends. "Styling doesn't change as quickly in men's as it does in women's," says Mimi Fukuyoshi, the store's vice-president of men's sportswear and shoes. As a result of the expanded space, the stock allocation has doubled, no doubt the result of multiple purchases - "saving the customer from having to take his shoes off twice", as Fukuyoshi says.

As with Barneys, brand exclusives are important to the store's portfolio, making up about 30 per cent of its stock. At Selfridges, sales of men's shoes had more than doubled by March, a milestone it celebrated with a somewhat tacky but commercially successful shoe carnival. Special services, such as studding, customising, hand-painting and monogramming, as well as an exclusive capsule collection by Nicholas Kirkwood inspired by the film Oz: The Great and Powerful, filled the store's Oxford Street windows and dedicated pop-up zones throughout.
